After a crushing defeat in the ICC World Cup finals against Australia, there is another heartbreak in store for Indian fans as head coach Rahul Dravid contract with the team has ended. The former India captain, who was appointed as coach of the team last year, was given a contract of one year till the World Cup. While there are talks about Dravid getting a contract extension, there is no official word on that yet.

Under the former India captain, Rohit Sharma & Co. blossomed and simply were a force to reckon with in all formats. India reached the final of WTC and the 50-over World Cup under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid. The team spirit was lauded by one and all during his tenure, and we also witnessed a lot of bonding between all the players.

Also, the head coach struck with the bunch of players and backed every player in the past year. India started to play fearlessly in the white-ball formats and opted to go for kill in every phase of the game. While sometimes it paid off, the other times it did not. But still, India never backed down from playing aggressively. A lot of the team fans ended up giving credit to Dravid for maintaining a great camaraderie in the team.

Will Rahul Dravid get a contract extension?

Before Dravid was appointed as the coach of Team India there was enormous pressure on him to win India either WTC Final, World Cup, or the two of it. But unfortunately, India did not win both, and questions will be asked by the Board to Dravid. It’s been over a decade since India have not won any ICC Trophies.

This is the 10th defeat for the Men in Blue in the knockouts of the ICC event.

Duncan Fletcher was the last coach to have helped India win an ICC event under MS Dhoni’s leadership in the 2013 Champions Trophy. So will India opt for a foreigner as a coach, or will they back former Indian players to do the job? Only time will tell. But Dravid getting a contract extension seems highly unlikely.
