R Ashwin shoots ‘Yashasvi Jaiswal’ warning to West Indies

Yashasvi Jaiswal would be looking to convert his start into a big score on day two of the first Test against West Indies

Yashasvi Jaiswal: IND vs WI – Yashasvi Jaiswal handled debut match nerves well against West Indies during the ongoing first Test by getting to an unbeaten 40. Ravichandran Ashwin, who has seen first-hand the talent the southpaw possess, is not surprised by the positive start Jaiswal has got. The off-spinner rather expects great things from the youngster and has issued a warning to West Indies by saying, the opening batter will play some special knocks.

“Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we’re going to see some special performances from him,” Ashwin said during the post-match conference.

Opening the batting alongside Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal scored briskly and dominated from the word go. While initially he looked a bit nervous at the crease, but later Jaiswal started to look at ease by playing aggressive brand of cricket. On day two, the youngster will be eyeing a big score on debut and help India get a huge lead.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Jaiswal aiming to covert start into a big score after Ashwin’s five-wicket haul puts India in pole position

While Jaiswal looked sublime at the crease, he owes much of the credit to Ashwin, who helped bundle out West Indies for 150 by taking a five-wicket haul. While initially, the pitch aided the pacers on day one, Ashwin felt the ball started to spin later. Ashwin feels adapting quickly to the Dominica surface helped him bowl well.

“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier, but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions,” Ashwin said.

With Ashwin setting a terrific platform for Jaiswal, the 22-year-old would be eager to capitalize on the start and eyeing a debut hundred. Meanwhile, West Indies bowlers would be looking to get some quick wickets on day two and try to restrict India below 300.
