Madhya Pradesh reached their first Ranji Trophy semifinal since 2016/17 as they handed Punjab a 10-wicket trashing in their quarterfinal fixture on Thursday. Kumar Kartikeya registered splendid figures of 6/50, his best in first class cricket to bundle out Punjab in their second innings, before the openers completed the formalities with ease.
Punjab will rue their poor batting display, with no batter scoring a half-century in either innings. Experienced stars Shubman Gill, Mandeep Singh and Gurkeerat Singh Mann all failed to make it count in a lacklustre effort by Abhishek Sharma’s side. Punjab were saved the embarrassment of an innings defeat with Sidharth Kaul and Mayank Markande scoring some handy runs to overhaul the 178-run deficit.
