The Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft for the 2025 season will take place on January 11. This is a month later than it usually is because the window for the tournament has been shifted from February-March to April-May. Due to the stiff competition from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to ban their players from playing, many top stars won’t feature in the 10th edition of the PSL.
IPL discards ready to play PSL
However, there is a silver lining. Due to tough competition in the IPL, several big names couldn’t attract any bidders at the mega auction in Jeddah. This will open the doors for the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Adil Rashid, Akeal Hosein, Jonny Bairstow, Finn Allen, Keshav Maharaj, Shakib Al Hasan, Jimmy Neesham, and Tim Southee.
All of these stars went unsold and will be attracted to play in Pakistan. Knowing that they can’t compete with the IPL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) knows they’ll have to go the extra mile to entice foreign stars. The PCB has therefore decided to increase the salary cap for marquee players.

PCB & PSL offer big bucks to foreign stars
Now, the top cricketers can fetch themselves somewhere between $350,000 to $400,000 (Rs 2.9 to 3.8 crore). This isn’t anywhere close to what the biggest IPL names get, but it is a start and a step in the right direction. Reports have even suggested that PSL franchises have always offered huge sums to several players, and English players are even ready to decline their county contracts in order to play in the PSL.
