Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Prince Yadav replaced Prasidh Krishna in 2nd IND vs IRE T20I.

India have brought Prince Yadav to the international circuit, perhaps at the best time. The Indian selectors have struck while the iron is hot, as the bustling pacer has enjoyed a terrific start to his senior career. He made his international debut (in ODIs) against Afghanistan earlier this month and delivered with three wickets in two games. Now, he was handed his T20I debut cap from Shivam Dube in the Ireland series, and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer had a superb T20I debut.

The numbers look impressive enough. Prince finished with 3/21 in four overs, two of which came in the last over of the innings. But the spell was about much more than wickets. It was a telling of why India have fast-tracked him after a sensational IPL campaign.

From IPL breakout star to international cricket

Not too long ago, Prince Yadav was an uncapped fast bowler trying to make a name for himself at LSG. He was alongside the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan and other foreign pacers. Yet, fourteen IPL matches later, he had become one of the discoveries of the season.

The 24-year-old picked up 16 wickets in IPL 2026 and spent a large chunk of the tournament among the Purple Cap contenders. More importantly, he bowled with the new ball, returned at the death, and nailed yorkers under pressure. In the middle overs, he was the wrecker-in-chief. Middle overs enforcer as they say.

His first seven matches alone brought 13 wickets, while his thunderbolt that cleaned up Virat Kohli for a second-ball duck against Royal Challengers Bengaluru became one of the highlights of him. The selectors did well to reward him. Unlike Gurnoor Brar, Prince showed his menace in the IPL. That belief was first rewarded during the Afghanistan ODI series, where Prince claimed three wickets in two appearances. In Belfast, he carried the same confidence into the shortest format.

How Prince bossed Ireland on debut

Prince, in his typical style, trouble the opposition batters. His maiden T20I wicket came through one of his biggest strengths. Bowling hard into the surface, Prince extracted extra bounce to force Lorcan Tucker into an awkward shot, with Ishan Kishan completing the catch behind the stumps.

The spell could easily have looked even better. Harry Tector survived a dropped return catch and a couple of near misses before Prince finally got his reward in the final over. First, he hurried Tector with another short ball that induced a top edge. Then he removed Liam McCarthy with a well-disguised off-cutter to complete a memorable three-wicket haul.

Throughout the evening, Prince repeatedly touched the high 130s, occasionally pushing towards 140 kmph. There was movement with the new ball, bounce from a good length and enough variation at the death. Coming up through tennis-ball cricket, Prince has a mastery of dishing perfect yorkers. He looks perfect for T20s. Prince now will slowly look to continue his form and be past the huge fast-bowling pool that India has, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar all in the mix.
