After winning the opening game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after 13 years, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have lost 4 matches on the trot. Their two most dependable players, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, are struggling. The former is yet to take a wicket, while the latter has 106 runs at 21.20. But player availability might be an even bigger problem.
No Will Jacks in GT vs MI match
Five matches in, Will Jacks has yet to join the team. The English all-rounder was perhaps the most in-form player in the T20 World Cup 2026, and if not for that superhuman run by Sanju Samson at the back end of the tournament, he would’ve been named the ‘player of the tournament’.

Jacks, who was on vacation until recently, isn’t certain to land in India for the Gujarat Titans (GT) match on April 20. MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has confirmed that he’ll join the squad soon. When? He didn’t specify. “Will Jacks is expected to join the squad soon,” Mhambrey told reporters in Ahmedabad.
Is Rohit Sharma fit to play?
Rohit Sharma, who sustained a hamstring injury against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, isn’t confirmed to play against GT. The former MI captain had walked away during the power play on April 12 and missed the Punjab Kings match on April 16. Since then, Rohit has been training. But reports have suggested that he’ll certainly miss one game, if not more.
He even turned up for practice on the eve of the GT vs MI match. He batted in the nets and looked in a joyous mood. However, there’s no guarantee that he’ll play on April 20. MI’s medical team is evaluating Rohit’s fitness, and it’s unlikely that we’ll get to know about his availability status until the toss.
“Rohit is batting at the nets in Ahmedabad, and he continues to be evaluated by the medical team and Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach,” Mhambrey added.
