Prabath Jayasuriya grabs fifer as Sri Lanka spin their way to victory over Bangladesh in 2nd Test

Prabath Jayasuriya wreaked havoc with his five-wicket haul, helping Sri Lanka win 2nd Test against Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs

It took Sri Lanka just 33 deliveries to bowl out Bangladesh on Day 4 of the SL vs BAN 2nd Test to register a mammoth an innings and 78 runs victory. This means Dhananjaya de Silva and co. have registered their first series win of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. Thanks to a gritty knock from Pathum Nissanka and the Sri Lankan spinners, he hosts managed to outclass Bangladesh and seal the series 1-0.

Spin is king! Sri Lanka outclass Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s only hope of surviving this Test on Day 4 was if Litton Das could bat for long and if the tailenders conjure some miraculous stuff. However, none of that happened. Bangladesh, who started by trailing 96 runs but had only four wickets in hand, lost Litton (14) first as he managed to add just one run from four deliveries before he was sent packing by Jayasuriya.

Prabath then struck twice in quick succession to leave Bangladesh reeling at the loss of 9 wickets. Eventually. Ratnayake hammered the final nail to the coffin by getting rid of Ebadot Hossain. Jayasuriya finished with figures of 5/56.

Earlier in the game, Pathum Nissanka’s 158-run knock, coupled with Dinesh Chanidmal (93) and Kusal Mendis’ (84) set up the perfect stage for Sri Lanka to take control of the game. With a hefty lead, Sri Lanka posted 458 runs in their 1st innings. It was then on Day 3 that the Lankan spinners wreaked havoc on the top order, completely throwing Bangladesh off guard.

Nissanka has been named the Player of the Match and the Series for his consistent performances with the bat across innings.

He says he was pleased with those two hundreds. He is enjoying being the senior batter and opener in the team. The Galle surface and SSC surface were different,” Nissanka said as translated by the broadcaster.
