Black marketing of tickets for CSK games have been rampant. Over-the-counter sales meant that many homeless, daily workers and students queued up for hours to get their hands on the passes. As per Indian Express, the said proxies earned Rs 800 from doing so, while the tickets were re-sold at a far superior rate. The markups were as high as 200-300%.

Aware of the same, the police stationed special teams at Chepauk to put a crackdown on the same. As per The Hindu, Triplicane police on Sunday, May 14, 2023, arrested 22 persons, including a woman. 11 cases were registered in a single day with police reporting groups of people who bought tickets in bulk to sell them in the black market. More than 38 tickets were recovered, alongside ₹62,800 cash.

As reported by InsideSport earlier, black-marketing of tickets has been high for Chepauk matches. With online tickets getting sold out in seconds, fans turned to offline tickets. However, there, fans paid homeless, students and daily wagers to stand in queues and buy tickets. In return, those daily wagers earn Rs 500-1000 per ticket.

Tickets for two IPL 2023 playoffs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai will only be sold online. With reports of long overnight queues, BCCI and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) have decided to sell tickets only online. Chepauk will host the Qualifier 1 on May 23, with the Eliminator on May 24. Tickets once again will be in high demand, should MS Dhoni and CSK make it to the playoffs.
