In a blitzkrieg start that had the Chinnaswamy crowd on its feet, Phil Salt lit up Bengaluru with a stunning 17-ball 37, powering Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the fastest team fifty of IPL 2025—reached in just 3 overs against Delhi Capitals. This was RCB’s second-fastest team fifty in IPL history, just behind their 2.3-over effort against Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the same venue in 2011. Fastest by any team at IPL 2025!
Phil Salt unleashes himself vs DC
After being sent in to bat, Mitchell Starc began with a tidy 7-run over. But the calm didn’t last. Salt unleashed carnage in the very next over, hammering Axar Patel for 16 runs, including a mighty six and two crisp boundaries.
He didn’t spare Starc either—smacking the left-armer for 30 runs in the third over, which included a no-ball four and a top-edged six. Kohli played the perfect foil, joining the party with a glorious six over extra cover.
Salt gone, RCB stumble
However, just as the momentum was peaking, RCB’s whirlwind was briefly halted. Salt was run out against the flow of play on 37(17), thanks to a miscommunication with Kohli. From 61/1, the scoreboard quickly read 74/3—Padikkal departed for a duck and Kohli followed shortly after his 27 off 13. Soon, it became 91/4 for RCB as Liam Livingstone struggled his way to a 6-ball 4.
