PCB set to appoint former Deputy Commissioner as Head of women’s wing

Under Tania Malik's tenure, Pakistan made grassroot level developments in women's cricket.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is poised to make an administrative change with the expected appointment of Rafia Haider, former Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, as the new Director of its Women’s Wing. It has been reported by Cricket Pakistan. This development comes in the wake of Tania Malik’s recent resignation from the position.

PCB selection process after Tania Malik

The PCB initiated a comprehensive search for new leadership following the departure of Tania Malik, who had served since October 2021. Among the candidates considered for the position was ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, though sources within the PCB indicate that Haider has emerged as the frontrunner for the role. Haider’s connection to the PCB’s current leadership is notable, as she served as Deputy Commissioner during PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi’s tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab. This prior working relationship may have influenced the selection process.

The appointment comes amid broader changes in PCB’s management structure. The organization recently bid farewell to two key figures: Tania Mallick, outgoing head of the Women’s Wing. And, Sohaib Sheikh, who played a crucial role in the Pakistan Super League (PSL)

PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer acknowledged their contributions in a statement, noting, “Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick were key members of the PCB management team, making meaningful contributions to our progress as an organisation.”

With her administrative background as former Deputy Commissioner, Rafia Haider brings a different perspective to the role.
