PCB considers Justin Langer & Matthew Hayden for head coach role: Report

However lucrative, foreign coaches have shown reluctance to coach the Pakistani side, with majority of them preferring to work in the IPL.

It looks like, the PCB is hell bent on getting a foreign coach for the Pakistan cricket team. After former all-rounder Shane Watson refused the offer, it now seems that the board is in touch with Justin Langer, Gary Kirsten, Matthew Hayden, Eoin Morgan and Phil Simmons.

As per the newspaper Jang, these high-profile coaches have already been contacted. Meanwhile, the PCB chairman had made it clear that he wanted a foreign coach for the team because of the upcoming T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy.

“It is because of the PCB’s poor track record in appointing and sacking coaches — foreign and local — in the past that others are now very reluctant to accept any offer from the PCB,” a board official conceded.

Lucrative IPL Offers vs Pakistan Cricket Team

Watson, who was the coach of the Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, refused the Pakistan team offer, and has a broadcast stint in India during the IPL. From the above list, Langer is currently coaching the Lucknow Super Giants, Kirsten is the batting coach of the Gujarat Titans. Hayden, who was associated with the Pakistani team in the past, is also a commentator for the IPL 2024.

This only raises one question, whether the bigwigs already associated with the IPL, be interested in taking over as the coach of the Pakistani team, despite a handsome remuneration.
