Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan was recently removed from office following a no-confidence motion. Notably, Raja had agreed to become the PCB chairman at the request of Khan, his former captain. Given the shift in power, it is expected that the presumed Shahbaz Sharif-led government is unlikely to keep Raja in the office and could reinstate former PCB chairman Najam Sethi in that role.

“If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board,” a PCB source in the know told Pakistan Observer.

“Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect. He had also made it clear to the PM that he would only remain in the Board until he (Imran Khan) was PM,” the source further claimed.
This news comes as a massive blow for Raja, only a day after the idea of a 4 Nation Super Series involving Pakistan, India, Australia and England was rejected unanimously in the ICC meeting. Pakistan recently organized a home series against Australia quite successfully, but Ramiz Raja’s possible departure could halt their progress once again. It is expected that if he indeed has to vacate his seat, the current PCB head could return to his commentary duties.
