With a new coach at the helm and a dedicated training camp underway, the Pakistan women's cricket team is gearing up for a strong showing at the Asia Cup.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new chapter for the national women’s cricket team, appointing Muhammad Wasim as their head coach. This move comes just ahead of the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024.

Muhammad Wasim, who previously served as the chief selector for the men’s national team, brings a wealth of cricketing experience to his new role.

He will be supported by a strong coaching staff, with former Test bowlers Abdur Rehman and Junaid Khan taking on the roles of spin bowling coach and assistant coach, respectively.

Pakistan women’s cricket team camp

The team wasted no time in starting their preparations for the Asia Cup. A four-day training camp commenced on Wednesday morning at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi.

The camp features 28 players vying for spots in the final squad. The women’s national selection committee is present at the camp, closely monitoring player performances to select the best possible team for the tournament.

Practice Makes Perfect!

The players will be put through their paces with intensive practice sessions at the High Performance Centre on Friday. To further hone their skills, they will participate in T20 practice matches on Thursday and Saturday at the Moin Khan Academy.

These matches will provide valuable experience under competitive conditions. Head Coach Muhammad Wasim will be joined by Abdur Rehman and Hanif Malik in overseeing the training camp.

Asia Cup challenge awaits

The eight-team ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup will be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka from July 19th to 28th. Pakistan has been drawn into Group A alongside arch-rivals India, Nepal, and UAE.

The much-anticipated clash between Pakistan and India will kick off the tournament on the opening day. Matches against Nepal and UAE will follow on July 21st and 23rd, respectively.

The PCB has called up a comprehensive squad of 28 players for the training camp.
