Glenn Philips became the first bowler since Jeetan Patel in 2008 to take a five-wicket haul in New Zealand in NZ vs AUS 1st Test

New Zealand keeper and part-time bowler Glenn Philips etched his name in the history books. He became the first Kiwi bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul at home in the 1st NZ vs AUS Test. Philips finished with figures of 5-45 in his spell in the 2nd innings.

A revitalised New Zealand are keen to grab victory against formidable opponents, i.e. Australia. The Kiwis came back strongly in the second innings to neutralise Australia’s attack. After having bowled out Australia for just 164, the Kiwis have been tasked to chase 368 runs to win the game.

Australia mounted a big first innings total of 383, courtesy of an unbeaten 174 from Cameron Green. In reply, the Black Caps fell down cheaply for just 179. Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry helped the hosts recover slightly. But the hosts struck back well in the second innings.

A stunning five-wicket haul from Glenn Phillips saw Australia struggling. Night watchman Nathon Lyon was the top scorer for hiss side with a crucial knock of 41 runs as Matt Henry and Tim Southee bagged 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Australia’s second innings collapse meant New Zealand need 368 runs to win the game. The hosts lost 2 early wickets but settled down well after Rachin Ravindra took charge. He slammed a fine fifty to remain unbeaten on 56. Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten on 12. New Zealand ended the game on Day 3 of stumps with a score 111/3.
