Palak Kohli drags fellow para shuttler to court ahead of Asian Para Games – Check Why?

Palak Kohli along with another Para shuttler Jyoti Verma, has filed a court case against fellow compatriot ahead of Asian Para Games

While the Asian Para Games is around the corner, Indian Para shuttler Palak Kohli has opted to fight a legal battle. The Paralympian, along with another Para shuttler Jyoti Verma, has filed a court case against fellow compatriot Vaishnavi Puneyani. The duo alleged the latter of faking her disability to get selected for the Asian Games.

According to a report from The Bridge, Palak Kohli and Jyoti Verma have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. They claim that Vaishnavi is not eligible to play under the ‘permanent disability’ rule issued by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“The issue we are raising is a significant one as we play a sport that is for permanently disabled athletes,” said Palak Kohli as quoted by The Bridge. “It is unfair that able-bodied players see fame and money in para-sports. They think that they can get early success and are trying to enter into Para-Badminton by manipulating the medical/disability documents.”

Palak Kohli alleges forgery of medical report

Palak and Jyoti added that Vaishnavi has forged her medical reports to show disability. They stated in the petition that despite several complaints, Vaishnavi was selected to the team for the Para Asian Games.

Vaishnavi has been chosen to play in the SL4 (Standing/lower limb impairment) category at the Asian Para Games. Palak and Jyoti will also be in action in the same category in the event.
