Two-time Champions Trophy winners, the Indian cricket team, recently unveiled their new jersey for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Monday. During the photoshoot, Captain Rohit Sharma was joined by several other stars, including Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Vice-Captain Shubman Gill, all looking ready in the fresh kit. What makes this jersey particularly interesting is that it prominently features the host nation’s name, “Pakistan.”
The ICC also shared images of the jersey featuring players who received honours at the recent ICC Awards. The jersey displays the inscription “Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan,” a detail that has caught considerable attention.
There was much debate over whether India would use the host nation’s name on their jersey, given the political tensions between the two countries. However, the issue has now been resolved. It is also clear that Rohit Sharma and his team will not be playing in Pakistan, as they are set to play all their group games in Dubai. If they qualify for the knockouts, those matches will also take place at the Dubai International Stadium.
Well, it is certainly not new, as teams traditionally feature the host country’s name on their kits for ICC tournaments. However, given the relations between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India initially resisted including “Pakistan” on the Indian jersey, stating that since India would not play in Pakistan, there was no need for the name. The matter was eventually settled after ICC intervention, with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirming that the board would follow ICC regulations.
