The ICC is set to get complete control of the venues for Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan only five days before the event commences. The development comes as the renovations works at two out of the three venues are at their final stages. The marquee tourney, which will be the first ICC event to be hosted by Pakistan in decades, is seeing a delay in renovation of the stadiums which has already skipped the deadline thrice.

ICC makes an exception for Pakistan in Champions Trophy

As per Times of India, the ICC has made an made an exception to their “exclusivity period”. Traditionally, this is supposed to kick in three weeks before the tournament (CT 2025). However, the global body has made an exception by allowing Pakistan to host the tri-nation series matches at these venues before Champions Trophy. It is pertinent to point out that the series involving Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand will commence from February 8 and will conclude only on February 14. The report states that all the venues will be under the ICC’s control only after the series, which means the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi will come under the global body’s purview only after Feb 14.

Hosts may seek approval from ICC for activities to take place in venues within the exclusivity window, PCB has followed the process and the ICC has authorised this for the exclusivity period for testing of the venues. Similarly, Dubai stadium is also being used during the exclusivity period for the ILT20,” a source told TOI.

Further, the report claims that Pakistan in on track to complete the renovation works at the stadium in time for the Champions Trophy.

“Following several inspection visits across all venues, the ICC is satisfied that they are on track for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy,” added the source.
