Pakistan won’t announce Champions Trophy 2025 provisional squad publicly: Report

Pakistan has decided to reportedly not make their provisional squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 public but will submit the list to the ICC

Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly decided that it won’t publicly announce the provisional squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. All teams were required to submit their squads for the marquee event to the ICC by January 12. While teams like Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan and England have revealed their provisional squads, other teams are yet to make a public announcement or pick their sides.

Pakistan opts to keep provisional CT 2025 squad a secret

As per Cricket Pakistan, the PCB will submit the list of its provisional squad to the ICC but doesn’t plan to make it public. The board is pinning its hopes on Saim Ayub to race against time and recover from his broken ankle to be fit in time for Champions Trophy 2025. The report adds that Pakistan intends to finalize the squad based on the stars who have been included for the tri-nation series that will take place before CT 2025.

Meanwhile, out-of-favour Fakhar Zaman is finally expected to get a chance in the tri-nation series. This would mean that he would most likely be a part of CT 2025 squad as well. Should Ayub fail to recover on time, then Zaman is the best option that Pakistan have for the role of an opener.

With 3492 runs from 82 ODIs, Zaman is indeed one of the best openers produced by Pakistan. averaging 46.45, he has 11 centuries and 16 fifties to his name. He is surely a better opening option for Pakistan instead of Abdullah Shafique who has been inconsistent. Had Fakhar Zaman paired up with Saim Ayub to be Pakistan opener, then the duo would surely have terrorized the rest of the teams and boost the batting line-up of Pakistan by a great extent.
