There seems to be some inside tussle going on between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its players regarding the issuing of no-objection certificate (NOC) to participate in the various T20 leagues around the world. According to Cricket Pakistan, the former all-rounder Imad Wasim became the latest victim of the tussle as he announced his retirement from the international cricket. According to International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, any player desiring to participate in the franchise-based league must obtain NOC from their respective cricket board.
As per a report, Imad Wasim wanted to participate in a T-10 league. However, PCB denied Wasim to participate in the league. He was then asked to play in a domestic tournament. To note, PCB recently appointed Wahab Riaz as their new chief-selector. The former Pakistan pacer emphasized that local players must engage in domestic events if they aspire to represent the national team.
However, this approach has not gone well with the local players. “Wahab has assumed significant responsibilities post-retirement, and it appears he is keen to assert his authority. Nonetheless, using force or coercion does not resolve issues. Zaka Asraf is a wise person, and he should seek a suitable solution while taking cognizance of this matter,” a Pakistani cricketer told to Cricket Pakistan
As stated above, Wahab Riaz was appointed as the new chief-selector of PCB. After the World Cup debacle, Babar Azam also stepped down from the captaincy post with Shaheen Afridi becoming the new skipper in the T20 format. On the other hand, senior batter Shan Masood was given the Test captaincy by PCB. Meanwhile, the Pakistan cricket team will take on Australia in a three-match Test series in December.
