The Pakistan cricket team is out of the race to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final. The Shan Masood-led side needed South Africa to lose at least one game to have a chance. However, now that the Proteas have beaten Sri Lanka, 2-0, their hopes of making the WTC 2025 Final are dashed. They still have four matches left, and even if they win all of them, they won’t find themselves in Lord’s next year.
Pakistan had managed to win just 4 of the 10 matches in the 2023-25 cycle and is currently placed 7th on the points table. Interestingly, they were 6th in August, and since then they’ve gone down a spot despite beating England 2-1 at home. Apart from them, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, England, Australia, and India were all contending for the WTC Final 2025; they needed a ‘Qudrat ka Nizam,’ but that won’t be happening this time around.
What were Pakistan’s qualification scenario for WTC Final 2025
- South Africa vs Sri Lanka doesn’t end in draw (1-1) or South Africa win 2-0 (x)
- Win their remaining 4 matches (beat West Indies 2-0 and South Africa 2-0)
- Australia don’t beat India 3-2 or series draws at 2-2
- New Zealand don’t win 2-1 against England
- Australia doesn’t beat beat or draw series against Sri Lanka (1-1 or 0-0) and Sri Lanka doesn’t win 2-0
