PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer, most definitely has been the backbone of his team’s batting. Slowly and quietly, in 15 matches he has amassed 516 runs at an average of 46.90, in what will soon become his best IPL season. But his 2 against RCB in Qualifier 1, could have just dented his confidence, especially when now Punjab face an MI in Qualifier 2, who have momentum on their side.
Hardik Pandya’s men were clinical after scoring 228 the previous night, and beat GT by 20 runs, to signal, it would take a brave effort by PBKS — who are in the playoffs after 11 years, to make the final. But the challenge here also is, Shreyas will have to score big.. and his record against the five time champs isn’t great.
In 19 matches, he has only scored 414 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 118, with just two fifties to his name. This is considerably lower to what he has managed in 131 overall matches. 3643 runs at an average of 33.73 and a strike-rate of 132. The team also has Prabhsimran Singh, who has 517 runs against his name in IPL 2025, followed by Priyansh Arya at 431, and Nehal Wadhera at 306 — but undoubtedly Iyer is their best bet, if the team has to come out on top on Sunday.
