T. Dilip acknowledged the team’s effort and expressed pride despite the loss. He appreciated the commitment in practice and praised the on-field brotherhood. Highlighting exceptional catches, he commended Virat Kohli for setting high standards and inspiring others with his performance and actions.
“Guys, I know it’s tough, and we all feel the pain, but that’s what it is. We did everything possibly right, and still, the result is not in our favor. But I think, as Rahul (Dravid) bhai said, we can all be proud of ourselves. I appreciate and thank every player in this group who has committed to the practice sessions. During the course of this tournament, I think we took some brilliant catches, but what I really liked is the brotherhood we shared on the field,” he said.
The way each one supported each other, the way everyone was backing each other—that’s outstanding to see. And I see us only growing as a team on the field. And today’s winner, he’s been a terrific player. He sets himself up to great standards, and every time he goes on the field, he does magic. Virat Kohli received the “Player of the Tournament” accolade in the ICC World Cup 2023 for his exceptional performance. Kohli amassed a record-breaking 765 runs in 11 innings, marking the highest runs ever scored by a batter in a single World Cup edition.
With an impressive average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.3, the former Indian captain also notched up six fifties and three centuries in the tournament. He also took a wicket in India’s clash against the Netherlands.
