27 November 2014 was registered as the darkest day for cricket when the whole cricketing fraternity mourned together. An Australian batter who had a whole career ahead of him left us in the most unfortunate and shocking incident.

On this day, Australian batter Phillip Hughes died of a tragedy that stunned everyone. After he was hit by a ball on top of his neck, Hughes’ breathed his last in the hospital. His sudden death caught the public off-guard who were too shocked and horrified.

In the match between South Australia and New South Wales in Sydney, Phillip Hughes was batting at 63 when the ball struck him on the top of his neck. He was smacked after missing Sean Abbott’s bouncer. Hughes appeared confused and slumped to the ground within a few seconds owing to a brain hemorrhage. Surprisingly, he was wearing a helmet but the impact was so hard that it was not enough to protest him.

The Australian batter was just 25 years old.

Phillip Hughes’ cricketing career
