Sri Lanka registered 19 runs win in the first of T20I on Thursday. Put into bat, Dasun Shanaka led outfit had a shacky start as they were reduced to 24-3 at the end of the powerplay with Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis returning for a first-ball ducks. However, Avishka Fernando’s career best 83 and skipper Shanaka’s 24-ball 51* revived Sri Lanka’s innings and posted 162/4 in the allotted overs.
In reply, Oman too had a poor start and were reduced to 23-4 in the fifth over before slipping to 87/6 in the 15th over. Naseem Khushi, however, gave a little scare to the visiting camp with his 40 off 22 but failed to guide his side home eventually being dismissed on the final ball. Oman managed 143/8 falling short by 19 runs.
In the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka is placed in Group A alongside Ireland Namibia and Netherlands while Oman is in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.
