“Not talking RCB”: Ab De Villiers hints at comeback from retirement but doesn’t fancy IPL

Ab de Villiers wants to return to playing cricket but doesn't fancy the chance of playing for RCB or in the IPL again

Fans might be in for a surprise pretty soon with former South Africa skipper Ab de Villiers dropping a hint on making his comeback. The swashbuckling batter, who played his last international game in 2018 and his last IPL match in 2021, is deliberating on returning to action. However, ABD categorically stated that he intends to play casual cricket and isn’t considering returning to RCB or the IPL.

de Villiers wants to return but not to RCB

Speaking in an interview on Running Between The Wickets, de Villiers said that he might return to playing cricket once again, adding that it was because of the pressure of his kids. He revealed that he was willing to try if it would work, noting that while his left eye was a little blurry, his right eye was the dominant one and that it was fine.

I might still play cricket one day, no confirmation whatsoever. I’ll go out and play a bit of casual cricket somewhere. And not professional IPL stuff or SA tours. Who knows, but we’ll see. I’m going to try it again. Nothing serious though, not talking RCB or some serious stuff,” said de Villiers.

Nicknamed Mr 360, ABD was a nightmare for the bowlers – both in international cricket and in T20 leagues. He was arguably one of RCB’s best batters and still enjoys great fan following from the fans and shares a great rapport with his former teammates. Having played in leagues like BBL, PSL, BPL, CPL and others in the past, de Villiers now wants to play casual cricket. This could perhaps mean his participation in leagues like Legends League Cricket or similar ones that are springing up in various parts of the globe.
