No place for Sanju Samson as India World Cup 2023 Squad finalised

Sanju Samson not picked in India's 15-member ODI World Cup 2023 squad. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav included. Ajit Agarkar met with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid in Sri Lanka to make the squad decision.

Sanju Samson has faced exclusion yet again, now from the 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, as the senior national selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made their decision after the India vs Pakistan match in Pallekele was called-off due to rain. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav have secured spots in the squad. The committee’s chairman, Ajit Agarkar, traveled to Sri Lanka to meet with captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, engaging in talks before finalizing the squad.

Ishan Kishan has been designated as the backup wicketkeeper behind KL Rahul in the team, and his impressive and composed innings of 81 against Pakistan on Saturday played a pivotal role in securing his place. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team in the capacity of a traveling reserve for the Asia Cup 2023, as he is not part of the main squad. Reportedly, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna have also not made the cut. Both of them are currently with the Indian squad in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup.

The Indian batting lineup for the upcoming ODI World Cup will feature Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav. The selection committee and team management have emphasized the importance of a strong batting order, which is why allrounders like Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have also earned their spots in the squad to provide depth in batting.

In the bowling department, the pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, accompanied by Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. Kuldeep Yadav is the primary choice in the spin bowling department. It’s worth noting that while squads for the World Cup must be finalized by September 5, there is an option to make changes until September 27, allowing for adjustments due to injuries and other unforeseen circumstances.
