New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptil has confirmed his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtains down on a glorious 15-year career. The explosive batter, who made his debut in all three formats in 2009, will continue to feature in T20 leagues across the world. An ODI great for the Kiwis, Guptill is the country’s third highest run-scorer in the 50-over format, having amassed 7436 runs in 198 ODI matches.

As per reports, the New Zealand cricket team is expected to honour and pay tribute to Guptill in NZ vs SL 3rd ODI in Auckland on Saturday. The batter had a memorable debut, smashing a ton against Sri Lanka in his very first ODI game. While he played his last ODI for New Zealand in 2022, he was a part of the side that suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of ODI World Cup 2019.
“As a young kid it was always my dream to play for New Zealand and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country,” Guptill said in a statement.
