New Pakistani batter enters Top 10 Test rankings; Babar Azam continues low phase

Pakistan will play their last WTC match against the West Indies, starting on January 25.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest Test batting rankings on Wednesday, with Pakistani batters making massive movements. Saud Shakeel has entered the top ten batting rankings after his 86 in the second innings of the first Test against the West Indies. As for Babar Azam, he has lost four places after his failure in the Multan Test.

Low period for Babar continues

Ever since 2023, Babar Azam has been enduring a lull in his Test batting. In this period, he isn’t among Pakistan’s top four run-getters, making 558 runs at an average of 24.26 with no hundreds. Hence, he is on 16th place in the rankings. He was at 12th in the previous ranking. His current rating points stand at 668, a huge gap from his career-best 882 that he achieved in 2022.

Meanwhile, Saud Shakeel is the top-ranked Pakistani batter, with 753 rating points. He jumped three slots above and is now at eighth on the ranking. Shakeel, who is also the vice-captain of the side, had a decent tour to South Africa. Against England, he averaged 56.00, including an 82 and 134.

Noman Ali has cracked the top 10 rankings after taking six wickets in the first Test against the West Indies in Multan, accumulating 761 points. Other significant gains were made by Pakistan’s Sajid Khan, who leaped 18 spots to 23rd place with 621 points, and Jomel Warrican, who jumped 12 places to 41st after claiming 10 wickets in the same match, earning 521 points.
