‘Nerves of steel’ Netizens laud KL Rahul, Kohli after tricky chase in IND vs AUS World Cup opener

Both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were the match-winners for India as India won its first match in World Cup,..

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were simply impressive with the bat as they completed a tricky chase during IND vs AUS clash in World Cup on Saturday. Indian fans on social praised both Kohli and Rahul for their match-winning performance in Chennai. To note, the Indian top-order collapsed big time as skipper Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were sent back to the pavilion by the Australian pacers.

India were 2-3 at one Stage

Team India had their back against the wall before KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stood firm and denied the Aussie bowlers for long. The senior pair took their time to settle in. However, both of them looked comfortable on the wicket once set.

One of the biggest incident during the second innings was when Kohli got dropped during his initial stages by Mitchell Marsh. That turn out to be the turning point of the match as Kohli duly punished the Kangaroos.

Earlier in the match, skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian spin-trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin wreaked havoc on the five-time world champions. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave the Aussies an early blow, with Virat Kohli taking a stunning catch at first slip off dangerous Mitchell Marsh without troubling the scorers.

Experienced David Warner (41 off 52) and Steven Smith (46 off 71) added 69 runs for the second wicket. However, the Indian tweakers turned the tide in their favour as Jadeja ended his spell with 3-28. However, Australia did a good job to drag their total close to the 200-run mark with Mitchell Starc playing a crucial knock of 28 runs off 35 balls, to take them to 199, setting a 200-run target for India.
