Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem who won the Olympic javelin gold medal above India’s star Neeraj Chopra, proudly carried the Champions trophy to the centre field before the second semifinal of ICC Champions Trophy between South Africa and New Zealand in Lahore on Wednesday. Arshad made history as Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medalist and also the nation’s first athletics medalist in the Paris Olympics.
The 6’3″ athlete shone in the Paris 2024 final with an incredible javelin throw of 92.97m, setting both an Olympic and Asian record. He surpassed the previous champion, Neeraj Chopra, who secured the silver with a throw of 89.45m.
No finals in Pakistan
Pakistan is eating this semifinal no less than the finals, because this is the last match happening in this tournament in Pakistan, as the final set to take place in Dubai. The Champions Trophy marks a big moment as it’s the first global event hosted by Pakistan since 1996. However, due to ongoing political tensions, Dubai has been designated as the neutral venue for India’s matches.
Why Champions Trophy final is happening in Dubai?
With India making it to the final, the championship match will be held in Dubai. This continues the trend of using Dubai as a neutral ground for matches involving India and Pakistan. India and Pakistan haven’t played each other in bilateral series since 2013, and India hasn’t toured Pakistan since 2008.
