Akash Deep is now a well-sought name for India in the Test setup. Making his Test debut last year, he has already played 7 Test matches for the country. His last outing came in the Boxing Day Test match and is now missing action for a back niggle. However, Akash Deep went on to recount on hitting sixes in Australia to his mega auction pickup.
“I started playing when I was 12-13 years old. They (Family) didn’t want me to play cricket, wanted me to do a government job,” he smiled while telling Sports Launchpad.
Akash Deep was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction for a whopping sum of 8 crores. But the Indian pacer claimed that since he is getting paid such a huge amount of money, it is mainly for his performance. Currently, the Bengal pacer is not a part of the white ball format.
Akash Deep is yet to make his white ball debut for India. The IND vs ENG series would have been the perfect spot, but his back niggle has prevented that from taking place. But the dream continues for the pacer, he claims “I want to play many Test matches for India.”
Proud moment to be picked by LSG
Lucknow Super Giants revamped and overhauled their squad heading into the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. They spilt their cash on Rishabh Pant, making him the highest-priced player in the history of the league for a price of 27 crores. On the other hand, the Lucknow outfits invested heavily in the pace setup as well. And Akash Deep is a perfect example as LSG bought him for a price of 8 crores.
“It was a very happy moment for me. But the thought remains at the back of my mind that if my price value is this high, then it has to be for my performance,” Akash Deep added.

Hitting sixes is easy
India was in a spot of huge bother in the IND vs AUS 3rd Test at Gabba. After the batting collapse, India needed a big innings from Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah to avoid a follow-on. Coming to bat at number 11, he dispatched a huge six over mid-on on a Pat Cummins delivery.
And that provided relief to the Indian dressing room. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & Gautam Gambhir were left shocked to see the pacer slogging the ball out of the park. “I like hitting sixes, it is easier for me to hit sixes than defend deliveries,” Akash Deep concluded.
