The Mumbai Indians (MI) were at the top of the ‘IPL Fairplay Award’ when their clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) began on Thursday, May 14. However, the side would certainly take a hit, as it has come to the fore that the Mumbai Indians (MI) batting coach had some issue with the fourth umpire.
During the 19th over of the MI chase, a moment led to Pollard using an “audible obscenity”. As a result, the BCCI has fined the MI batting coach 15 per cent of his applicable match fees. Pollard has received one demerit point as well. He has joined a long list of offenders who have been booked for on-field incidents.

IPL’s media advisory read:
“Kieron Pollard, Batting Coach, Mumbai Indians has been fined 15% of his applicable match fee and accumulated one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials.”
“Pollard was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “use of an audible obscenity during a match.” The incident occurred in the 19th over of the second innings when Pollard used abusive language towards the fourth umpire. Pollard admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee, Pankaj Dharmani.”

What happened in PBKS vs MI match in Dharamsala?
Party poopers Mumbai Indians pulled off one of the most dramatic chases of IPL 2026 to beat Punjab Kings by six wickets in Dharamsala and leave Shreyas Iyer’s side staring at a serious collapse in their campaign. Chasing 201, MI got home with one ball to spare thanks to a stunning unbeaten 75 off just 33 balls from Tilak Varma and a brutal late cameo from Will Jacks, who smashed 25* off 10 balls.
Punjab looked in control for most of the evening. Prabhsimran Singh’s explosive 57 off 32 had powered them to 200/8, but their bowlers once again failed under pressure. Yuzvendra Chahal had figures of 3-0-12-1 and seemed set to decide the game, but PBKS held him back at the wrong moment. Marco Jansen’s expensive 18th over, which went for 22 runs, completely shifted momentum towards Mumbai.
Earlier in the chase, Ryan Rickelton tore into the PBKS attack in the powerplay, scoring 46 inside the first six overs. Rohit Sharma struggled for timing, while Sherfane Rutherford consumed deliveries without really accelerating. But Tilak’s counterattack in the final overs changed everything.
For Punjab, it was a fifth straight defeat after starting the season unbeaten in seven games. Their playoff hopes are suddenly hanging by a thread. Meanwhile, MI will be confident not to end up with a wooden spoon now.
