MS Dhoni’s 400th T20 ends in tatters, Thala fails to steer CSK in must-win IPL 2025 clash

Harshal Patel has dismissed MS Dhoni four times in 35 balls, conceding just 2 boundaries.

MS Dhoni’s 400th T20 did have the desired ending with the bat for the legendary Chennai Super Kings skipper. Facing SRH at his adopted home in Chepauk, the 43-year-old failed to get a launch and propel his team to a good score. Dhoni could only manage 6 on his special game day, before nemesis Harshal Patel got the better of him in the CSK vs SRH clash.

400th T20 ends in no show from MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni became just the third Indian to play 400 T20s on Friday. Much was riding on the CSK skipper’s shoulders when he walked in to bat in the CSK vs SRH clash. However, the 43-year-old failed to launch the big hits in a rigid batting display. With wickets falling around, Dhoni got stuck in a rut, striking at less than run a ball on a tricky surface at the Chepauk.

Dhoni got off the blocks with a boundary off Zeeshan Ansari, but played a couple of dots off his opposite number Pat Cummins. He then went up against Harshal Patel, his arch-nemesis. The SRH pacer had a stellar record against the CSK skipper and continued his hold over the 43-year-old. Patel bowled it shortish outside off, with Dhoni cutting it straight to Abhishek Sharma at point.

Harshal Patel was the pick of the SRH bowlers at Chepauk, picking up 4/28 in his quota of overs. Since IPL 2021, no bowler has picked up more wickets than any other bowler. The 34-year-old has 102 wickets in 65 innings, with 13 wickets in 8 games in IPL 2025. The veteran has a stellar record at Chennai, picking up 15 wickets in 6 innings, at an average of 8.53 and an economy rate of 6.09.
