MS Dhoni-like reflexes! Richa Ghosh lightning quick one-handed catch stuns Pakistan in T20 WC

As the team looks to build on this momentum, the Women in Blue will be counting on more magical moments like Richa’s as they fight for a place in the semifinals.

India’s wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh displayed a moment of brilliance during India’s must-win encounter against Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup, pulling off a stunning one-handed catch reminiscent of MS Dhoni. This spectacular catch came just a day after Richa’s costly drop in a previous match against New Zealand, which had contributed to India’s disappointing 58-run loss.

On Friday, in India’s opener against New Zealand, Richa misjudged a simple catch off Suzie Bates’ top edge, leading to further fielding woes for India. The missed opportunity was one of many that left India’s semifinal hopes in jeopardy. However, in a complete turnaround, Richa showcased her sharp reflexes in Sunday’s game, helping India bounce back in style.

Stunning Catch by Richa Ghosh turns game

The magical moment came on the final ball of Pakistan’s 14th over, bowled by Asha Sobhana. As Pakistan captain Fatima Sana attempted a third consecutive slog sweep, after back-to-back boundaries, she edged the ball outside off. What followed was pure wicketkeeping magic—Richa Ghosh stretched out her right hand and plucked the ball out of the air with lightning-quick reflexes. The replays showed Richa’s reaction time was a mere 0.44 seconds, turning what could have been a missed opportunity into a spectacular dismissal.

Richa’s incredible one-handed catch not only lifted the spirits of her teammates but also marked a personal redemption for her after Friday’s disappointing fielding performance.

Pakistan set 106 target in Women’s T20 World Cup

Following India’s disciplined bowling display, Pakistan struggled to post a competitive total. Electing to bat first, Pakistan could only manage 105 for eight in their 20 overs. Captain Fatima Sana’s decision to bat first backfired as the Indian bowlers maintained tight control, picking up wickets at regular intervals.

Pakistan’s top scorer, Nida Dar, managed just 28 runs off 34 balls as the Indian attack, led by off-spinner Shreyanka Patil (2/12) and Arundhati Reddy (3/19), proved too strong. The disciplined bowling performance laid the foundation for India to chase a modest target, keeping their T20 World Cup hopes alive.

India need win!!

With the pressure mounting, Richa Ghosh’s brilliance behind the stumps and the solid performance of the Indian bowlers have set the stage for India’s much-needed victory in this crucial game. As the team looks to build on this momentum, the Women in Blue will be counting on more magical moments like Richa’s as they fight for a place in the semifinals.
