First Indian captain to win the IPL (2010) – After losing a close encounter in 2008 final and getting knocked out in the semis in the South Africa edition of 2009, Dhoni and company weren’t sitting back as they displayed a flamboyant display in the knockouts. Initially, CSK struggled to make the semis but once they made it, Dhoni’s captaincy made sure they got over the line as he became the first Indian captain to lift the holy grail of IPL.

First captain to defend the IPL title (2011) – If winning the title is one thing, then defending the title is another thing, but MS Dhoni made it possible in 2011. Fresh from the ODI World Cup success, CSK and its lethal lineup made sure they got over the line in 2011 beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final. The unique feat meant that Dhoni was the first captain to retain the title, while only Rohit Sharma in 2020 has gone on to match his achievement.

Leading the way in Champions League (2010 and 2014) – Like IPL the now abolished Champions League (CL) was another place where Dhoni made his captaincy mark, not once but twice he led the South Indian side to glory on the global stage. The 2010 edition win was followed by another win in 2014, making CSK only the second team to win the CL title on multiple occasions.

Captains knock in Dharamshala to lead CSK in semi-final (2010) – With a place in the semi-final on the line, little was the margin for error as Dhoni produced a matching-winning performance to take CSK over the line in Dharamshala. Chasing 193 against Kings XI Punjab, he amassed 54 not out to take his team home and book a place in the semis.

Recapturing the glory after two-year ban (2018) – After two years out due to a ban, CSK and Dhoni returned to the IPL fold with a bang in 2018 as they captured glory. The title was third in the history of CSK and Dhoni was once again the epicenter of the win, he used his captaincy skills and experience of players like Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina to recapture glory on the first time of asking after making a return to IPL with CSK.
