Move on quickly: Shubman Gill’s advice to himself after returning to form in IND vs ENG Test series

Prior to the India vs England Test series, Gill was averaging 20.75 in the No. 3 spot. Replacing Cheteshwar Pujara in the positive, questions over Gill's technique and temperament were raised prior to his ton in Vizag.

After a poor string of results at the No. 3 spot and calls for dropping the youngster, Shubman Gill roared back with a ton in Vizag and a well-made 91 in Rajkot. After his two successful outings in the India vs England Test series, the 24-year-old has talked about his expectations and the difference between an average and a big player.

Talking about expectation fans and he himself has, the No. 3 batter at the pre-match press-conference said:

“It is a bit tough (living up to his own expectations). When people from outside talk about all those things, it did not make much difference to me. But the expectations that I keep for myself made me a bit disappointed.”

“You will definitely have some expectations on you as to how you want to play for the team and the country. But I don’t think that has changed my mindset. I still have the same set of expectations for myself.”

On how he got out of his slump and what his mindset is after returning to form ahead of the India vs England 4th Test in Ranchi, Shubman Gill said:

“It is all about how you are able to forget them, move on quickly, and be ready for the next challenge. That is the difference between a big player and an average player.”
