Ahead of the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL), Annabel Sutherland who emerged as the highest-paid player showcased a remarkable return to her form. Sutherland scored a historic, stellar 210 runs off 256 balls in the Australia Women in the Only Test against South Africa Women at the WACA in Perth. Following the Test match, Sutherland is set to join the Delhi Capitals for the 2024 WPL in India, having been acquired for a hefty sum of Rs 2 crore
The 22-year-old became the fifth Australian woman to achieve a Test double hundred, following Joanne Broadbent, Michelle Goszko, Karen Rolton, and Ellyse Perry, who holds the record with an unbeaten 213 against England in November 2017.
During the Test, Sutherland was on course to surpass Perry’s milestone but was dismissed three runs shy by Chloe Tryon. Her impressive knock, featuring 27 fours and 2 sixes, propelled Australia to declare at 575 for 9, securing a commanding lead of 499 runs in the first innings.
Besides her batting prowess, Sutherland also impressed with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets against South Africa.

Despite a modest performance in the previous season of the WPL with the Gujarat Giants, where she scored only 28 runs and picked up three wickets, Sutherland turned the tide in the women’s Ashes. She notably scored her maiden Test century in Australia’s victory in Nottingham and followed it up with a notable performance in the T20I series against England at The Oval.
Additionally, her crucial 47-ball 50 batting at No. 7 played a pivotal role in Australia’s sole ODI triumph of the multi-format Ashes. Moreover, her stellar display in the 2023 WBBL, where she led the Melbourne Stars in both batting and bowling departments, further cemented her status as a top-tier player in the women’s cricket circuit.
