Sky smashed a 49-ball hundred against the GT bowling attack. His innings included 11 boundaries and six maximums. The strike rate wasn’t bad either, finishing at 210.20. Out of MI’s score of 218/5, SKY contributed unbeaten 103 runs. Like any SKY innings, his hundred too came off the last ball, with the star batsman requiring a minimum of three runs to complete his maiden IPL hundred. Sky smashed the last ball of the MI innings for a six to bring up his first hundred in the T20 competition. SKY became only the fifth batsmen from the Mumbai Indians to have scored a ton in the IPL. Suryakumar Yadav innings destroyed Gujarat Titans bowling attack to pieces, but most importantly etched the batter name in history books forever. It was the first instance in nine years, since an MI batsman reached a three figure mark in the IPL.
List of 100s by MI batsmen in the IPL
- Former Sri Lankan captain and MI opener Sanath Jayasuriya was the first batter from the Mumbai Indians to score a hundred in the IPL. His hundred came against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede, Mumbai, in 2008. Jayasuriya smashed 114 runs in just 48 balls at a whopping strike rate of 237.50.
- Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was the second MI batter to register a three-figure mark in the IPL for the men in blue and gold. Sachin Tendulkar registered a hundred in 66 balls against the Kochi Tuskers of Kerala in April 2011. Tendulkar’s innings included 12 boundaries and three sixes and came at a strike rate of 151.51.
- Rohit Sharma was the third Mumbai Indians batsman to go past the three-figure mark in the IPL. Rohit Sharma scored his ton against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in May 2012. Rohit Sharma’s innings lasted for 60 balls, in which he scored 109 runs. His knock included 12 boundaries and five sixes, and it came at a strike rate of 181.66.
- The last MI batsman before Suryakumar Yadav was former West Indies opener Lendl Simmons, who scored exactly 100 runs off just 61 balls in 2014. Simmons’ innings was made up of 14 boundaries and two sixes against Punjab in Mohali. Simmons’ strike rate read 163.93.
- Sky is the latest Mumbai Indians batsman to score a hundred in the IPL. Suryakumar Yadav finished with an unbeaten 103 runs in only 49 balls against the Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede, Mumbai.
