LSG’s Shardul Thakur to face uphill task in keeping teammate Rohit Sharma quiet

Rohit Sharma holds the edge over Shardul Thakur in IPL, having been dismissed just once by his Mumbai teammate

Shardul Thakur will be tasked with eliminating the Rohit Sharma threat early on in the powerplay in the clash between LSG and MI. The Mumbai medium pacer will face his long-time friend and domestic teammate and will face a stiff challenge in getting rid of the in-form Hitman. MI will be eyeing their fifth consecutive win, having bounced back in stellar fashion in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Rohit Sharma vs Shardul Thakur

In the history of IPL, Rohit has managed to score 80 runs from 11 innings that he has faced Shardul in. He boasts of a strike rate of 135.59 against the LSG bowler and averages 80. Sharma has been dismissed only on one occasion by Shardul so far in IPL. Having smashed 8 fours and 4 sixes against him so far, Rohit will be eyeing to mete out maximum punishment to his Mumbai teammate.

Rohit has seen consistent improvement in his performances in IPL 2025. So far, he has 228 runs from 8 matches at a strike rate of 154.05. After failing to fire in six matches, Sharma has scored back-to-back half centuries in the last two games, registering scores of 76* and 70.

On the other hand, Shardul started off the tournament on a bright note after being named as a last-minute injury replacement in the LSG squad. He has managed to take 12 wickets from 9 games so far in IPL 2025, with best figures of 4/34. However, he has not been economical by any means.

The last time the two sides met in IPL 2025, LSG managed to win by 12 runs. Rohit wasn’t a part of the game and MI’s experiment to open with Will Jacks and Ryan Rickleton did not work. It was also the same game in which Tilak Varma was controversially retired out.

Shardul has been LSG’s go-to bowler in the powerplay in this season. While he doesn’t hold a great record against Rohit Sharma, he will be wary of the threat posed by the Hitman, especially since he has rediscovered his touch over the last couple of games.
