SRH vs PBKS, IPL 2026: Punjab Kings have slumped to their third defeat in a row after going unbeaten in their first seven games. Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed a 33-run victory after setting a 236-run target. Punjab lost their top order in the powerplay and despite Cooper Connolly slamming his maiden IPL century, it wasn’t enough. PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first. It wasn’t the best decision, since SRH went on to score 79/1 in the powerplay. With four chances dropped, Hyderabad batters punished Punjab. Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13), Travis Head (38 off 19), Ishan Kishan (55 off 32), Heinrich Klaasen (69 off 43) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (29 off 13) scored at brisk rates to take SRH to 235/4. Thanks to the win, SRH replaced PBKS to top the IPL 2026 Points Table.

Catches win matches!

Perhaps Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting has to remind his players that catches win matches and dropped catches could cost you the match. Punjab learned that again as they dropped 3 catches and missed a stumping. Cooper Connolly and Lockie Ferguson dropped Ishan Kishan twice when he was on 9 and 24. Even Prabhsimran Singh missed a stumping chance when he was on 26. Ishan went on to score 55. Shashank Singh, the serial offender, dropped Heinrich Klaasen when he was on 10. Klaasen went on to score 69.

As a result, Sunrisers Hyderabad went hammering. Marco Jansen went for 61 runs in his four overs, while Vijaykumar Vyshak conceded 54 runs in his 4. The only bowler who kept things under control, Yuzvendra Chahal, did not get his reward, thanks to the dropped chances. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 235/4, with Nitish Kumar Reddy also smashing 29 off 13.

Cooper Connolly’s century in vain

To come back from that poor show on the field, Punjab Kings needed their top batters to fire. But apart from Cooper Connolly, nobody could. Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer all fell prey to the short ball trap in the powerplay. Connolly waged a lone battle, scoring his maiden IPL and T20 century, but with no support from the other end, he could not take PBKS home. In the end, Punjab managed to end their miserable night with 202/7.
