PBKS vs SRH, IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer's captain's knock guides Punjab to 6-wicket win

With a tickle down the leg, Punjab win by 6 wickets. An easy victory in the end. Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 69 from 31 was the main reason behind getting their so early after the destructive start by Arya and Prabh. 

That's the end of it. Shreyas has smashed Malinga for 16 runs in 4 balls, reaching his fifty in just 24 balls and now PBKS need just 23 off 24 to win.

SRH had stopped the scoring a bit and then Shreyas pulled Harshal Patel out of the park. Followed by two boundaries in the 'V'. Wadhera's striking at just 118.18 while the PBKS captain is going at 195.45.

Knowing things can get difficult, Shreyas takes on Nitish Reddy and gets 14 runs off the 12th over. Now the required run rate is back to 9.

Cooper Connolly wasn't in the flow. He scores just 11 off 12. Meanwhile, PBKS have lost all 3 wickets to Shivang.

Arya isn't pleased with Prabhsimran taking away all the shine. He destroys Malinga in the 5th over, who goes for 17. The Sri Lankan was so flusters that he delivered a slower ball full toss around thigh high.

21 balls. That's how long PBKS have taken to score 50 runs. At this moment, Prabhsimran Singh is outcoming Arya. He's striking at 240. He's faced 8 balls from Unadkat and scored 24 runs. 

Since Dubey went for runs, Ishan Kishan has handed an over each to Jayden Unadkat and Eshan Malinga. They've gone for 22 runs. So, slightly better but not great.

Priyansh Arya vs spin in the powerplay (in the IPL)

SRH are using the Harsh Dubey ploy once again despite Priyansh Arya, a left-handed batter, opening the batting. 

The move doesn't work this time. Arya hits 2 fours and 1 six as PBKS smashes 18 off the first over. 

Considering SRH were 105/0 after 6 overs, PBKS have done a splendid job to keep them at 219. Just 114 runs scored in the last 14 overs. Everyone knows bowling isn't SRH's strength. If the surface doesn't help the bowlers much, PBKS should get there.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone past the 200-run mark in the 18th over but SRH won't be happy. The run-rate has fallen and SRH seem to have lost all the momentum in the death overs.

A mix-up between Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen results in the latter being run-out and he isn't one bit happy. SRH have lost their 4th wicket!

SRH have managed to reach 176/3 in 15 overs, with their momentum slowing down with the departure of captain Ishan Kishan. Klaasen and Aniket Verma are out in the middle now and will be aiming to take SRH past the 200-run mark in the last five overs.

Ishan Kishan is forced to walk back for 27 runs off 17 balls as Marco Jansen takes a one-handed stunner near the boundary ropes to send the SRH captain packing. The partnership between Klaasen and Kishan has been broken and Arshdeep Singh finally gets his first wicket.

After scoring 105 runs in the first six overs, SRH have slowed down and have managed to reach 132/2 in 10 overs. Shashank Singh's double strike has done the job for the hosts

Abhishek Sharma won the Player of the Match award for his 141-run knock off just 55 deliveries the last time he played against the Punjab Kings. He celebrated his century in a unique manner by pulling out a note from his pocket that read, "This is for the Orange Army". Overall, he has scored 314 runs in 8 matches at an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 196.25 vs PBKS.

While Ricky Ponting inspects the pitch at Mullanpur ahead of the Punjab Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game, here's an interesting insight as to why the home team has struggled at the venue.

"When I came to PBKS - it has been eight years now - I did not get many chances in the first four years. I used to sit outside and think about how I could get a chance to play. But because of Impact Player, opportunities have increased," Prabhsimran Singh said ahead of the game against SRH.

The surface in Mullanpur isn’t high-scoring like what we see in Hyderabad, Mumbai or Bengaluru. There is a thin layer of grass, which helps the seamers early on, but the pitch underneath remains dry. That combination means the new ball can move around for a few overs before the surface begins to slow down. Unlike some of the flatter venues this season, this is not a ground where batters can go hard from ball one.
