PBKS vs RR, IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals are back to winning ways, and they have ended Punjab Kings’ unbeaten run with a 6-wicket win in Mullanpur. RR’s middle-order finally came alive as they chased down a 223-run target in 19.2 overs. After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s blitz in the powerplay, Yashasvi Jaiswal set the platform. Put into bat, Punjab lost Priyansh Arya to Jofra Archer in the 3rd over after he hit 11-ball 29. Cooper Connolly and Prabhsimran Singh then added a 59-run stand, posting 65/1 in the powerplay. Then on, PBKS built up small partnerships with Prabhsimran scoring 59. But Marcus Stoinis’s late flourish helped Punjab score 55 runs in the last three overs to reach an above-par total. Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag won the toss and opted to bowl. RR dropped out of form Shimron Hetmyer for Dasun Shanaka. Unbeaten Punjab Kings also made changes, dropping Shashank Singh for Suryansh Shedge for the Indian Premier League 2026 Match 40.

Stoinis salvages Punjab’s innings

Sent to bat, Punjab Kings had a good start with Priyansh Arya smashing 29 off 11. While Prabhsimran Singh struggled to go at a high strike rate, he dropped the anchor with 44-ball 59. Cooper Connolly also played his part with 30 off 14 but with Shreyas Iyer (30 off 27) struggling, Punjab needed some inspiration in the death overs.

Marcus Stoinis put his hand up. In IPL 2026, he only watched others rip the bowling attacks apart. But his day had finally come. In the last three overs, PBKS smashed 55 runs with Marcus Stoinis playing a blazing knock of 22-ball 62. That took Punjab Kings to 222/4.

Middle-order comes alive for Rajasthan

Despite good start, the middle-order had let Rajasthan Royals down in the last few games. But against Punjab Kings that finally came alive. Their openers provided a great start again with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashing 43 off 16 to help RR post 84/1 in the powerplay. From there on, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 27-ball 51 to extend that platform. With Shimron Hetmyer dropped, Riyan Parag had to take responsibility and he did so with some attacking shots, scoring 16-ball 29.

With Jaiswal and Parag dismissed by 14th over, Donovan Ferreira took charge with Shubham Dubey. Ferreira smashed an unbeaten 52 off 26 balls, while Dubey remained not out on 31 off 12 as RR chased the target down with six wickets to spare.

Punjab Kings will also be wary of their pace attack with Arshdeep Singh (1/68), Lockie Ferguson (0/57) and Marco Jansen (0/41 in 3.2 overs) combined, conceding 166 runs for just 1 wicket.

Mullanpur Stadium Pitch Report

The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium has settled into the same rhythm it had last year, runs, runs, and more runs. After serving a pace-friendly pitch in the first game, Mullanpur has offered batting-friendly pitches with some assistance to seamers early on.

The first-innings average at Mullanpur this season has been around 212, on a surface that offers true bounce, good pace, and an extra-quick outfield. The venue has already produced a 254/7 from PBKS against LSG this season. But this is where KKR were bowled out for 95 last year. So, it's not as if the pitch has eliminated bowlers entirely. But in general, this is one of the better batting decks on the IPL circuit right now, and the dimensions don't help bowlers either.

The toss equation is interesting because of dew. Conditions on Tuesday are expected to be humid, with temperatures around 28-30°C and no rain forecast, which means dew should arrive in the second innings.
