MI vs LSG, IPL 2026: Rohit-Rickleton condemn Lucknow to 6th loss on the trot

Despite the win, Mumbai Indians remain 9th with 6 points. LSG are at the bottom with six consecutive losses.

Mumbai Indians are back to winning ways after losing to Chennai Super Kings. Rohit Sharma (84 off 44) and Ryan Rickleton (83 off 32) set the stage of the 229-run chase with a 143-run opening stand. Naman Dhir kept his calm with 23 off 12 to chase down the target with 8 balls to spare. The win helped Mumbai stay alive in the IPL 2026 playoff race with 6 points from 10 games. As for Lucknow, they have now suffered six losses on the trot.

Suryakumar Yadav extends his poor run of form as he departs for 12 after trying to flick a harmless delivery. Shami bowled a full, slower delivery and as SKY tried to hit, did not have enough timing and deposited it safely to Nicholas Pooran.

After the dropped catch, Naman Dhir has smashed Prince Yadav for two 4s and Mohd Shami for a six and a four to take Mumbai to touching distance of the win.

Naman Dhir was a goner for a duck. Naman hit a quick delivery by Siddarth to Inglis at the cover. But despite diving, Inglis failed to hold on to the catch. In the process, he injured his finger. MI need 39 off 24.

An excellent catch by Aiden Markram at the boundary line and Tilak Varma departs. Tilak took Siddharth on but did not have enough timing as the ball landed safely into Markam's hands.

Last five overs and despite two new batters on the crease, Mumbai are in command. They need another 42 runs off the last 30 balls with a long list of batters till to come.

There won't be any century for Rohit Sharma today as he departs for 84 off 44 balls, trying to play a scoop against M Siddharth. He has done the job to give Mumbai Indians the platform to chase 229 runs down. And the Mumbai fans are acknowledging that with a standing ovation.

After Ryan Rickleton's wicket, Rohit Sharma has taken charge of the chase. He has gone after Mohd Sami with a 4 and a 6. He took on Avesh for a 4 and a six to move to 80s. He will aim to score his century today. As a result, the asking rate has come down to just above 8.

Ryan Rickleton hit Mohsin Khan for 4, 6 and 6 but the bowler had the last laugh. Mohsin bowled a pace-off delivery and as Rickleton looked to slog, did not time it well and gave away a catch to Josh Inglis in the extra cover. The 143-run stand is broken.

Mumbai Indians score 127/0 in 10 overs. At this stage, Lucknow were 141/3, losing two quick wickets. This is where Lucknow lost their steam. But so far, the Rohit-Rickleton pair has been excellent and almost flawless.

Rohit Sharma returns from injury and hits 2nd half-century of IPL 2026. He gets to the milestone of 27 deliveries, with a six against M Siddharth. With that, he also brings up 100-run stand with Ryan Rickleton.

Ryan Rickleton gets his 2nd fifty of IPL 2026 off 22 balls. The last time he played at the Wankhede, he smashed his maiden IPL ton.

M Siddharth goes for 16 runs in the 7th over with some poor deliveries. Rohit Sharma moves to 40s after an excellent over against Avesh Khan. Rickleton also punished Siddharth to move to 40s.

End of the powerplay and even though Mumbai Indians haven't matched Lucknow's 90/1, Rohit Sharma smashed Avesh Khan for 21 runs in the 6th over, with 4, 4, 6, 6, to end the first six overs with 71/0.

Prince Yadav bowls an excellent 5th over with just 6 runs coming off it. Mumbai Indians haven't been able to ace the powerplay so far. Lucknow scored 90/1, while Mumbai are just 50/0 in 5 overs.

Lucknow's two economical bowlers, Mohsin Khan and Mohammed Shami, have not had that miserly economy rates today. With pitch excellent for batting, Ryan Rickleton has punished both of them on deliveries in the slot. Mohsin has gone for 10 in two overs, Shami has gone for 11.50 in two overs.

Both Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton are taking a cautious approach at the start before unleashing the big shots. In the 2nd over, Mohsin Khan goes for 11, with Rickleton hitting him for a six.

Rohit Sharma is back as an Impact Player and he begins the chase of 229 with Ryan Rickleton. LSG are about 20 runs short and if Mumbai batters go well against LSG's pace attack, they will fancy a chance to chase down the target comfortably.

Aiden Markram (31 off 25) and Himmat Singh (40 off 31) power Lucknow Super Giants to 228/5 at the end of 20 overs. Deepak Chahar bowls a brilliant last over to restrict LSG to just 36 runs coming off the last four overs. LSG were 123/1 in 8 overs. MI desperately need this win, and have been dealt a blow with Pooran's performance.

Deepak Chahar continues to be expensive as he concedes 12 runs off his 3rd over. LSG are well past the 200-run mark and are eyeing to finish on a strong note.

Despite losing 5 wickets, Lucknow Super Giants have managed to go past 200 runs in the 17th over. MI bowlers continue to struggle against Markram and Himmat Singh. This is LSG's highest score in IPL 2026.

Rishabh Pant would have become the latest LSG batter to be dismissed as he gets caught behind. Corbin Bosch would have gotten his second wicket in one over as replays showed a clear spike as the ball passes the bat. However, the catch wasn't taken cleanly and as a result Pant survives. But, two balls later, Marsh (44) gets caught out as Bosch recovers well.

Nicholas Pooran is nearing his first fifty of IPL 2026 as LSG clock 100 runs in the first seven overs. 16 runs come off the last over.

Nicholas Pooran, who has been in poor form throughout IPL 2026 so far, has scored 33 of 11 so far. LSG have gone past 90 runs within the powerplay.

Allah Ghazanfar strikes as he gets rid of Josh Inglis cheaply. The DC batter is forced to depart for 13 runs off 5 balls.

Hardik Panda, MI's usual skipper, isn't taking part in the contest against LSG because of back spasms, as per Times of India.

Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh are out in the middle to commence the proceedings for LSG. The duo will hope to get a strong start for the side. The umpires are out in the middle and play is all set to get underway in a bit.

Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav wins the toss and opts to bowl first. Two changes made to the team, and Rohit Sharma makes his return after a hamstring injury. LSG have made some changes as well.

Suryakumar Yadav has come out to the toss representing the Mumbai Indians, in place of Hardik Pandya. The MI all-rounder misses out on the contest due to an illness.

Josh Inglis gets his cap from Mitchell Marsh and is all set to make his debut for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026.

Rohit Sharma has got the all-clear from the physios and he has been training. Even on Sunday, when the Mumbai squad did not turn up for the optional practice session, he had his nets session. He is ready but will he want to break the opening combination that is working?

Lucknow's struggles are less surprising, given their inconsistency all season. Their last outing against KKR was a nail-biting Super Over loss, with Mohsin Khan taking a five-wicket haul for 23, the first five-wicket haul of IPL 2026. 

The flip side of that? Their bowling is stronger than it was weeks ago. Mohsin Khan has picked up nine wickets in four games this season with an economy rate of 6.37, the best in the league among those who've bowled at least five overs. 

But the batting remains the real problem. Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran have not delivered as expected, with Pant averaging 27 and Pooran just 10 across the season. Mitchell Marsh (212 runs) and Aiden Markram (193 runs) are their leading run-scorers, but haven't matched the output of the league's leading batters.

Mumbai's descent has been hard to watch for a franchise built on consistency. Rohit Sharma has missed five matches with a hamstring injury, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have not been among the runs, and Jasprit Bumrah has failed to take wickets regularly. Pandya has managed 146 runs and four wickets this season, while Suryakumar has 186 runs in what's been a forgettable tournament for both. 

The one bit of good news is that Rohit took a fitness test on the eve of the match and batted in the nets, and if available, it will be a big boost for MI's chances. Beyond that, Naman Dhir has been the silver lining, batting at Nos. 3 and 4, he has scored two fifties and a 45 in five innings, with 233 runs at a strike rate of 147.46, second only to Ryan Rickelton's 297.

The Wankhede remains one of the IPL's most batting-friendly venues, and this season has been no different. The boundaries are not too big, and the chasing teams have made good use of that.

The match will be played on pitch no. 4, which has been used only once so far this season, in a game where Punjab Kings chased down MI's 195 for 6 with seven wickets and 21 balls in hand. PBKS didn't just chase successfully; they did it comfortably. The surface, in other words, supported attacking stroke play.

The average first-innings score at the Wankhede is generally between 180 and 195, with the venue offering consistent bounce, quick outfield conditions, and shorter boundaries that support stroke play. Dew is the other tactical swing factor. Teams often prefer bowling first due to dew affecting second-innings bowling conditions.

This is one of the asymmetrical rivalries in IPL 2026. Lucknow Super Giants have enjoyed the upper hand in this rivalry so far, leading 6-2 overall. That's a significant advantage, and even at the Wankhede, they have won two out of three matches against Mumbai, making them a tricky opponent despite their current struggles.
