LSG vs GT, IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans win with 8 balls to spare, 7 wickets in hand

With a single towards long off, GT wins. Buttler and Gill did the heavy lifting with the bat, but it was the bowlers who deserved the plaudits.

Two back-to-back wickets for LSG. Shami bowls a slower ball in the slot which Buttler looks to launch. He doesn't time the ball since, due to the lack of pace, Aiden Markram takes a good catch at long off.

A well directed bouncer from Prince Yadav and Gill walks back. He's done his job, though. GT need just 35 from 30 to win. Buttler's well set and 8 batters remain.

Jos Buttler's truly returned to form. He's looked fluent. It's going to tough for team to stop him now. GT's top three has become a major threat again.

Gill scores his 2nd fifty of IPL 2026, in just his 3rd match. The GT captain will look to remain unbeaten in the 165-run chase.

At the 10-over mark, GT are 86/1. They are ahead in the chase and have 9 wickets at hand. Should be a very easy chase, especially with Gill and Buttler both set.

George Linde and Digvesh have bowled 4 back-to-back overs. The latter has taken a wicket and created another chance but the former hasn't bowled well until now.

Shubman Gill has become the youngest to score 4,000 runs in the IPL. 

Sai's poor run continues. Yes, he did score a fifty against RR. But his other 3 scores are 13, 12 and 15. It's perhaps the first time in his short IPL career that he isn't crossing 30 with ease. Meanwhile, Digvesh Rathi pulls out his signature celebration. 

Whatever the treatment was, it was brief. Shami's back on the field. But the return isn't fruitful as Gill smashes him for 20 runs in 6 balls in the penultimate over of the powerplay.

Midway through his 2nd over, Shami called for the physio. It's perhaps some issue with his groin or hamstring. He bowls the 2 remaining balls and walks off the field. Shahbaz Ahmed takes his place in the field.



In the next over, Prince Yadav hurts his hand while attempting to take a catch as Gill hits the ball hard to his left. But he's fine to continue.

Just a hint of movement but not enough to trouble the batters. Considering GT are chasing just 165, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan can take their time. One musn't format that they are the most consistent openers in the IPL and score at 9 & 10 runs per over with ease.

Siraj won the battle once again.

An 18-run 20th over from Ashok Sharma takes Lucknow Super Giants to 164/8 at the end of the innings. LSG managed to get 44 runs in the last 3 overs in order to recover well and post a face-saving total. Gujarat Titans need 165 runs to win.

Ashok Sharma removes George Linde for 16 off 10 but the damage has been done as the impact player has created the needed impact. LSG are nearing the 160-run mark

Prasidh Krishna gets his fourth wicket as the short ball does the trick again. Mukul Choudhary, who was LSG's hero in the previous game, is caught behind as he attempts a pull shot. LSG lose their 7th wicket. Prasidh finishes with figures of 4/28 and the commentators can't help but rave about how much the pacer has improved over the last couple of seasons. Krishna is now the Purple Cap holder

Abdul Samad departs for 18 runs after being caught out by Glenn Phillips while attempting a pull shot. Ashok Sharma gets his first wicket of the evening as LSG lose their 6th wicket. George Linde, who was signed as Wanindu Hasaranga's replacement, has been introduced as an impact sub, replacing Ayush Badoni. GT have also used the impact sub rule - Siraj goes out and Shahrukh Khan is in!

Mohammed Siraj was brilliant with the balll against LSG, finishing with outstanding figures of 1/19 from his four overs at an economy rate of just 4.75. LSG have failed to keep the scoreboard ticking. All eyes will be on Mukul Choudhary and Abdul Samad to try and get the team to at least 150 runs in the next four overs.

Prasidh Krishna gets his third wicket as Nicholas Pooran flops yet again and is forced to walk back after scoring 18 runs. LSG have lost half their side now!

Nicholas Pooran brings up the hundred for LSG with a six off Rashid Khan and the bowler thought he had gotten him, but it went past the ropes. Pooran capitalizes and slams a six off the next ball as well. Has Nicholas broken free from the shackles of poor form finally?

After scoring 60 runs at 10 r.p.o in the first 6 overs, LSG have managed to add only 20 runs in the next 30 deliveries and have lost two wickets. Nicholas Pooran is out in the middle and seems to be struggling to find his rhythm. Abdul Samad is also taking his own sweet time to settle down

Prasidh Krishna strikes in his third attempt as Washington Sundar takes a good catch to get rid of Aiden Markram. The LSG batter survived the previous two deliveries, thanks to a dropped catch from Glenn Phillips and another narrow miss by a GT fielder. However, third time is lucky and LSG have lost their 3rd wicket.

Despite losing two wickets, LSG have managed to keep up a run-rate of 10 in the powerplay as they reach 60/2 at the end of the powerplay. Siaj bowled three excellent overs while Rabada was quite expensive. Ashok Sharma didn't get off to the best of the starts.

Rishabh Pant (11 off 8) and Aiden Markram (7 off 7) have kept the scoreboard ticking for LSG despite losing Mitchell Marsh early on in the innings. Siraj has been good so far, conceding 10 runs in his 2 overs. The batters seem to be going after Rabada instead.

After scoring a 6 and a 4 four off back-to-back deliveries, Mitchell Marsh is caught out off the very next delivery while he attempts to clear the in-field as Rabada bounces back. LSG have lost their first wicket as captain Shubman Gill takes an easy catch. A wicket falls but 19 runs come off Rabada's first over.

Mohammed Siraj concedes just 4 runs from his first over as GT get a good start. A reminder for fans - the pitch at Lucknow comprises of 75% of red soil and 25% of black soil - which means one can expect a good amount of bounce.

"Two points in the last match give us plenty of confidence. Looking to play better cricket and ensure the match doesn't go to the last over. "There were a lot of things running in our minds regarding how the game went. We could have done things better in some areas, but honestly, the bowlers performed very well under pressure. Prasidh, in particular, bowling that final over with 5 fielders inside the circle, defending 12, it was always going to be challenging. Obviously, skill is never in question here, it's always about our decision-making, how we take care of the ball and how well we execute. I think we did that pretty well in the last game," Washington Sundar said ahead of the LSG vs GT match.

Gujarat Titans have a top-heavy batting lineup with Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and Shubman Gill providing consistency. However, after the Top 3, GT struggle to find consistency. Glenn Phillips has scored 25, 3 and 14. Washington Sundar did score his maiden half-century last game but he is yet to be a reliable batter. Rahul Tewatia has been out of form for the last three years but he continues to get chances. 

However, their bowling continues to be good with Kagiso Rabada and Prasidh Krishna scalping regularly. Rashid Khan is also back to his best with 3/17 against Delhi Capitals. Mohammed Siraj’s form could be a concern, while the absence of Sai Kishore continues to raise eyebrows. 

Lucknow Super Giants unearthed potential in all-rounder Mukul Choudhary, whose heroics helped secure a thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders. However, their poor home record at Ekana Stadium remains a concern. LSG lost six of eight home games last season. The batting relies heavily on Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran, with captain Rishabh Pant blowing hot and cold. The middle order needs stability. 

LSG’s pace attack, featuring Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, and emerging talents, ranks among the strongest in the league and will test GT’s top order. However, injuries remain a concern. Despite a bright start, Mohsin Khan has been on the bench with another niggle. 

The black-soil pitch at Ekana is generally slow and favours spinners and cutters as the game progresses, often producing moderate-scoring contests rather than high-octane 200+ totals. Early on, batters can play strokes, but the surface tends to grip and slow down, making disciplined batting essential. Average first-innings score hovers around 160-170 in recent T20s. Spinners have historically taken a higher share of wickets. 

Dew is usually minimal in April, so chasing may not have a huge advantage. Teams often prefer batting first to set a target, though bowlers play a bigger role in the middle and death overs.

Gujarat Titans initially dominated with a 4-0 lead. But since then, LSG have narrowed the gap with three wins in a row over GT to make it 3-4 after 7 matches. LSG won both their matches against GT last season.
