IND vs AFG, 3rd ODI: Yashasvi Jaiswal scores 2nd ton, India win by 9 wickets

Jaiswal dances down the track, and hits Nabi over the covers for a massive six, to bring up his second ODI ton. This one has come in 83 deliveries. This is his 2nd in 3 matches, to put things into perspective. And also, he has 0 fifties. Oh wait, he hits another six over mid wicket now, and India have won 3-0. Comprehensive 9-wicket win for the team.

Chance for a catch, and Jaiswal survives a close chance. He tries to hit over the covers for a big one, and is nearly caught. But he manages to move on to 93.

What confidence does this 3-match series give the team? The biggest positive has to be the form of Rohit and Jaiswal; which also increases the confusion for the selectors, leading up to the WC. India move to 184/1 in 26 overs.

Now, the coast is clear for Jaiswal to get to his ton. But for some reason he has slowed down considerably. In the last 5-6 overs, he has scored 10 runs only. He needs to get a couple of boundaries here.

What have you done, Rohit Sharma. Just when he was looking set for a ton, he tries to pull over mid wicket for a six. And he has found a fielder. He has been dismissed for 79 from 69. Everyone is disappointed looking at what has unfurled.

The race to 100 between Jaiswal and Rohit is on. The latter has picked up pace in the last 5 overs, and in this fresh over of Rashid, hits a six too. He surpasses Jasiwal now, and it remains to be seen now, who scores a ton. IND 167/0 in 22 overs.

This has become an excellent wicket for batting and even spinners are not getting any purchase. Nabi finishes another over in a jiffy and the score has now moved to 132/ 0 in 17 overs. Still entire batting order waiting in the wings.

This innings is perhaps the most important for Rohit and Jaiswal. One has to save his place in the XI while the other has to build his. In the meantime, he has brought up his 62nd fifty here. Can he get to his 100 here, remains to be seen. IND 123/0 in 16 overs.

It is aglorious site to see Rohit sweep through mid wicket and that too for a six. Rashid Khan too looks clueless against this batting masterclass. India is inching ahead in the chase, and IND 113/0 in 14 overs. 

Afghanistan are not putting up a fight even. They were under 50 in 13 overs, and now India have crossed 100 here. Rohit is looking set for a big score as well. IND 101/0 in 13 overs.

There you go. Jaiswal has brought up his maiden ODI fifty in only 38 deliveries. And it has been one of those knocks, that will make the selectors think. Well done. IND 94/0 in 12 overs.

First 10 overs gone and India are in command, thanks to some poor fielding efforts and bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal has looked better of the two openers with 46 off 32 balls. Rohit Sharma received two lifelines, and since then, he has looked better with 27 off 30. India need 133 runs more in the next 40 overs.

Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi bowled a 134.6 kph delivery that pitched back of a length and angled inward. It was the perfect line for Rohit Sharma, who unleashed his trademark whip-pull to flick the ball right off his hips and send it flying over the fine-leg boundary for a six.

Rohit Sharma got a top edge trying to flick, and it flew behind the wicketkeeper. Rahmanullah Gurbaz ran for yards but failed to take the catch. To make things worse, the ball bounced, hit his knee and went for a boundary.

Azmatullah Omarzai bowls a long 10-ball over with two no-balls, two wide-balls, and three boundaries. He goes for 18 runs in the first over.

Prasidh Krishna has bagged his maiden fifer in ODIs, as Hashmatullah Shahidi departs for 102, shortly after his century. And with that, Afghanistan are bowled out for 218 in 44.2 overs.

Hashmatullah Shahidi gets his maiden ODI century. He has 2500+ runs in ODIs, but for the first time, he will lift his bat and remove his helmet. He held the fort with Azmatullah Omarzai for a 105-run stand after Afghanistan were reduced to 36/4 in 9.2 overs. While one may point fingers at him for the two run-outs, he has played a fine knock. 

India will start at 5/0 as Afghanistan have received a 5-run penalty. Hashmatullah Shahidi was repeatedly warned for running on the pitch, and in the 41st over, he was finally penalised by the umpire.

Does not look like Hashmatullah Shahidi will get his century today. He has forced another run out as Fareed Ahmed is the latest victim. Afghanistan are 9 down.

Afghanistan lose their 8th wicket as Allah Ghazanfar is run out. Hashmatullah Shahidi is to be blamed here as he tried to steal a single but Shubman Gill was alert and threw the ball back to Ishan Kishan. Ghazanfar was well short of the crease despite diving.

Harsh Dubey gets his first wicket of the match as he removes Rashid Khan. With Hashmatullah Shahidi dropping the anchor for his century, Rashid tried to take Harsh on but he could not time it well and gave away a catch to Prince Yadav for 5.

Highest score comes up for Hashmat here. He has played well, but very slow. He must look to accelerate now. Or is he nervous for his maiden ODI ton? 10 overs left now as AFG 204/6 in 40 overs.

Harsh Dubey has been a bit under par. If you don't give runs in your spell and not even pick wickets, that just shows that batters are happily leaving you alone. Same might be said for Washi as well. AFG 203/6 in 39 overs.

Brar is employing short ball tactics against Hashmat, and the latter has fallen on one of the occasions. Both the players having bit of a banter here. AFG 201/6 in 38 overs.

What should be the role of Nabi from here? He has to go for his shots for sure. IF he is injured, had suffered a blow on his finger, then he should just retire hurt. Oh and as we say this, Nabi has been clean bowled. The ball from Gurnoor keeps low, and the ball hits off and middle. He is out for 21 from 23.

Gurnoor is being tested for the first time in this series. The speeds are low in this hot and humid wether and plus the pitch has become excellent for batting. The question is, when will the AFG batters accelerate. AFG 191/5 in 36 overs.

This score is starting to look better with each passing over. Now the wickets have to come. Look, it is still not the total that would put India in danger, but certainly is a challenging one. AFG 183/5 in 35 overs.

Team India will chase down any total here on the Chennai wicket, but then, for Aghanistan, they should be eyeing 250 at least. Shahidi is getting into the 80s and approaching his maide ODI ton. AFG 178/5 in 34 overs.

And the star of the day, Prasidh has come back into the attack, and the expectation will only be to get a wicket. Six overs done and now only three runs come here. His figures read 6-2-9-4. AFG 159/5 in 32 overs.

A well-directed bouncer and Azmat goes for a hook. Doesn't manage to connect it well eventually, and it caught at deep fine leg by Prasidh Krishna. Looks like all the wickets today will have Prasidh's contribution for sure. He is out for 50, as AFG 143/5 in 29 overs.

Omarzai isn't far behind. He gets to his half-century in the next over. It's taken him just 55 balls. His aggressive intent has meant that Afghanistan are crawling back. The all-rounder hasn't been having the best series but has come clutch in Chennai.

A proper captain's knock from Hashmatullah Shahidi. A well-made half-century in 64 balls. The 100-run stand between him and Azmatullah Omarzai is also up. Afghanistan were 36/4 and in deep trouble. Now, there back in the game.

Washi has come into the attack, and once again it is the same story, where wickets are not coming, but he is bowling tight lines like the other bowlers. India has to break the partnership before it becomes dangerous. AFG 118/4 in 24 overs.

This has been an excellent partership between Hashmat and Azmat and they are approaching their 50s. Even though the RR isn't the best, but preserving wickets will hold them in good stead.

NKR has been bowling well too, but it is just that wickets have not come his way. Maybe after a couple of overs, they should try and get Prasidh back into the attack. Only he has looked like picking up wickets in this line up. AFG 102/4 in 20 overs. 

Harsh Dubey is certainly bowling those tight lines, which is troubling the right hander, but in the meantime, this pair has brought up 50 partnership. They are in no real hurry to get boundaries. Still a lot of time left in the match. AFG 99/4 in 19 overs.

For the first time in the match, spin has been introduced and Harsh Dubey comes into the attack. Just four singles come from his first over, and this is the middle-overs period where the pace of the match reduces. AFG 83/4 in 17 overs.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has come into the attack, and a couple of wickets from him, will improve his chances of going to the England series. Oh, and Hardik won't be there so.... He starts off with a no ball and a wide. And then the first legal deliery is sent down for a boundary. Hashmat and Azmat are gowing in confidence. A longish over comes to an end. AFG 79/4 in 16 overs.

Is he going to take all ten here? Prasidh Krishna was given fifth over on the trot and the lad has delivered again. He is bowling a menacing spell here, and now completes four wickets. 

Unlike the previous three dismissals, Darwish Rasooli tried to fight back and went for a big loft over extra cover. But Chepauk’s extra bounce betrayed him. The ball hit high on the bat instead of the middle, ballooned up, and Shreyas Iyer ran back from mid-off to take a sharp catch. 

Krishna finished the over a bit tiredly. He had his hands on hips and even bowled a no-ball to finish the over. Extreme heat in Chennai and kudos to the tall pacer for delivering a spell like that.

🚨 Prasidh takes 3 – Rohit too! 🚨

Is this action replay again and again? It is if there are only three participants – Prasidh, the Afghanistan batter, and Rohit Sharma. Prasidh is pitching up in the right areas, gaining seam off the deck; batters are edging and Rohit is taking them cleanly with soft hands. 

Krishna strikes again for his 3rd wicket. Ibrahim Zadran edges a 139.6 kph good-length ball outside off and Rohit Sharma takes a comfortable catch at first slip. Zadran made 11 off 18. Both Afghan openers are gone now, and Afghanistan slump to 3 down inside the powerplay at Chepauk. Krishna is on fire.

Gurnoor Brar is impressing but Prasidh Krishna is on fire as well.

Prasidh just got Rahmat Shah with a 141kph back-of-length ball that angled in and jagged away off the seam. Rahmat tried to whip it but closed the bat face early, got a leading edge, and Rohit Sharma snaffled it at first slip. Another Prasidh and Rohit combo does the magic for India.

Afghanistan lose their 2nd wicket with Rahmat gone for 5 off 15. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, 31, walks in at No. 4. He badly needs runs under his belt. Meanwhile, Ibrahim is currently batting on 11* off 16.

Gurnoor Brar rattled Ibrahim Zadran with a 144kph short ball that kicked up and hit his helmet. Ibrahim tried to pull but misjudged the bounce. Physio came out for a concussion check, and he passed it to continue.

Brar erred in line immediately as he got leg-glanced for a four. It turned out that it was a no-ball too before Ibrahim pulled the next short ball for four. Gurnoor is firing with some great hit-the-deck bowling but needs to be more consistent in his lines.

Wicket - Gurbaz gone🚨

Prasidh Krishna strikes on his very first ball of the spell as Rahmanullah Gurbaz edges to a fuller one and heads back to pavilion. Perhaps Brar's quick opening over played on Gurbaz's mind as he wanted to assert dominance from ball one. 

Unfortunately, he edged straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip, who took a good catch. He doesn't drop those! Prasidh starts with a bang as Rahmat Shah comes to the crease. The ball seamed 2.5 degree and that undid Gurbaz.

Gurnoor Brar is firing up straightaway! He is once again bowling above 140 kmph and hurrying Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the first over. The Chennai deck gave Jamie Overton enough bounce at IPL 2026, and we are seeing something similar here. While Gurbaz got a four off the hips but Brar will take confidence from the first over.

The umpires are making their way to the middle now, and it would be tough work for the Indian bowlers early in the afternoon. It is going to be hot, humid, and hard work. But then they will get some assistance from the wicket too.
