IND A vs AFG A: Match called off, Afghanistan A win by 4 runs

India A have completely bossed the first half in Dambulla, piling up a formidable 349/9 in a rain-curtailed 49-over contest.

The platform was laid by an explosive opening burst from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (44 off 22) and Prabhsimran Singh, who dominated Afghanistan A's attack with a superb 84.
After the early assault, vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad kept the innings together with a composed 66, while Tilak Varma shifted gears brilliantly to finish with a fluent 66 of his own. Late cameos from Suryansh Shedge and Anukul Roy ensured India A never took the foot off the accelerator.

Afghanistan A fought back through Abdollah Ahmadzai's five-wicket haul and Farmanullah Safi's three wickets, but India A's relentless batting waves have left them staring at a daunting chase of 350.

Just when India A were eyeing a total beyond 350, Afghanistan A have struck twice in successive deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad falls for a well-made 66 off 80 balls, mistiming a slower ball from Farmanullah Safi straight to midwicket after threatening to push on towards another century.

The very next ball, Ayush Badoni nicks behind the first delivery, giving Safi two wickets in two balls. India A would want to avoid a mini collapse here. Tilak Varma is the man settled in here as he is just 4 short of another fifty. Meanwhile, Suryansh Shegde is here for the finishing prowes.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is once again leading from the front for India A!

Fresh off a match-winning century against Sri Lanka A in the tournament opener, the vice-captain is backing it up with another classy knock. He brings up a well-paced fifty off 66 balls, steering Mohammad Ibrahim through backward point for a couple. Since reaching the milestone, Gaikwad is continuing to find boundaries with ease, including a gorgeous lofted drive over mid-off. Alongside Tilak Varma, he is keeping India A firmly on course for a massive total, with 350 very much in sight.

Against the run of play, Afghanistan A are finally getting the breakthrough they desperately need.

Prabhsimran Singh was looking set for a century, but he has thrown it away with a soft dismissal on 84. Imran Mir, drifting one down the leg side, and the opener was trying to help it fine with a lap shot while hanging deep in his crease. However, he only managed a faint feather through to wicketkeeper Ishaq Rahimi, who was juggling initially before completing the catch.

A superb knock is coming to an end just 16 runs short of a deserved hundred. Tilak Varma comes to the crease 

Priyansh Arya's short stay at the crease ended as he failed to capitalize on a width delivery from Abdullah Ahmadzai. The left-hander went for an aggressive cut shot against a length ball outside off stump but couldn't keep it down or place it into the gap. Instead, he hit it straight to Bahir Shah at point, who completed a simple catch. Priyansh departed for 8 off 9 balls, unable to build on India's strong start.

Perhaps, three consecutive dot balls got to him. Arya doesn't move his feet anyway. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad joins Prabhsimran Singh and he starts his innings with an exquisite boundary on the first ball.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's entertaining knock ended on 44 off 22 balls when he fell to a clever change of angle from Abdullah Ahmadzai. Bowling from around the wicket, Ahmadzai cramped the left-hander with a short delivery that angled into his body.
Sooryavanshi attempted an upper-cut/ramp shot but failed to create enough room, only managing a thin edge through to wicketkeeper Ishaq Rahimi. For criticism, Sooryavanshi was a bit casual there.

Now, Priyansh Arya has joined his Punjab Kings partner Prabhsimran Singh at the crease. Prabh is batting on 28* off 21, while Arya has already hit a six in first five balls. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh have completely taken Afghanistan A's pace attack out of the contest by refusing to let the bowlers settle on a length.

The pacers are caught in two minds — afraid to pitch it up because of Sooryavanshi's crisp drives, yet equally reluctant to bowl short because both batters are rocking back and punching or cutting with authority.

Vaibhav has been particularly brutal, scoring freely through the off-side and midwicket, while Prabhsimran has punished anything wide. Together, they have forced Afghanistan's quicks into defensive bowling inside the Powerplay. 

After 7 overs, India A are on 74, with Sooryavanshi batting at 44 off 21.
