India A vs Sri Lanka A 1st unofficial Test, Day 1: Jurel-Rasheed take IND to 333/4 at stumps

And that is all we have for you from day 1. The umpires have taken the bails off, and India end the day on 333/4. Jurel not out on 68 while Rasheed scores 53. All-in-all, the day belonged to Sa Sudharsan, who went on to score 132 earlier in the day.

Take a bow, Rasheed. Coming in at a difficult time, he has managed to not only stay with his skipper, but also score a crucial 50 for the team. Comes in 90 deliveries, as IND A 328/4 in 85 overs.

We are past the closing time in the day, but there seems to be an extension for half an hour. Nonetheless, the 100-run partnership has come up between Jurel and Rasheed. IND A 318/4 now.

A captain's knock by Dhruv Jurel here, as he gets it at a time, when India were struggling at 217/4. He has been patient and not looked to attack the bowlers unecessarily. The score is 307/4 in 78 overs.

These two batters have completety turned around, in what was looking an ordinary day for the team. The partnership is 75 already, and Jurel is on the cusp of a crafty 50. IND 292/4 in 72 overs.

Skipper Jurel has been brilliant so far, and batted excellently well with Andhra youngster Rasheed. But the duo who is set, can't get complacent here. A wicket here could spell doom here for the side. IND A 268/4 in 68 overs.

The 50-run stand between Jurel and Rasheed will be up soon. The duo are putting away bad balls and motoring along. 24 overs left in the day but one can't see how we'll get over the 80 mark.

And after 5 overs, India finally manage to get out of a shell and get a boundary. Jurel cracks one off Samuditha, and he has to stay on the crease and play a big hand. The score moves to 234/4 in 59 overs.

The next man in for IND A is Shaik Rasheed, and the Andhra batter has a golden chance to prove his credentials. He had a decent domestic run, and some runs under his belt could be beneficial in the long run. IND 225/4 in 56 overs.

Just as this partnership was building, Chamika Gunasekara has removed Sai Sudharsan for 132. He has done his bit, and now it depends on the rest of the batters to take charge.

Despite this being a great wicket to bat on, Ayush Pandey, DDP, and Ruturaj Gaikwad would be regretting th eopportunity missed, to score big. IT always holds a player in good stead, to score runs in the A tours. The score has moved to 217/3 in 53 overs.

And welcome back. Sai Sudharsan is all set to resume his innings, and Ravindu Fernando will begin the proceedings now. A good 40 overs remain in the day, but we might not actually get there.

The second session has ended and Sai Sudharsan is batting comfortably at 121. He will resume soon after the tea break, and Jurel will be there for company.

Oh no! A huge wicket this for Sri Lanka A. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was in superb form in the tri-series, has gone for 22. He was well-set, facing over 50 balls but off-spinner Ravindu Fernando has outdone him, trapping the former India A captain in front of the wicket. 

Sudharsan is still going strong at 115* as captain Dhruv Jurel comes in.

Sai Sudharsan has breached the triple-figure mark as he brings up his 9th first-class hundred off 130 deliveries. The opener has struck 14 boundaries so far and has looked quite calm and composed. This knock will surely boost Sai Su's confidence as it allows him to cement his position at number 3 in the Indian Test team.

India A have gone past the 150-run mark as they continue to dominate the Sri Lanka A bowlers in the 2nd session. Sai Sudharsan is now in the 90s and is closing in on his century. The partnership between him and Gaikwad is now worth 60 runs.

Sai Sudharsan continues to pile up runs and is inching closer to the triple-figure mark. He has entered the 80s and has struck 12 fours so far. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad is taking his time to settle down.

India A have gone past the 100-run mark shortly after the start of the 2nd session of play in Galle. Sai Sudharsan has moved into the 60s. After losing a wicket early in the session, Sai Su and Gaikwad will be hoping to hold their fort and not give away any more wickets in this session.

Devdutt Padikkal is the first batter to depart post lunch as Sri Lanka A strike early in the second session. The number 3 batter manages to score just 12 runs (1 four and 1 six) before he is sent packing. Dilum Sudeera gets his second wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the next batter in.

Sri Lanka A have finally gotten the first breakthrough as Ayush Pandey gets caught out by Ravindu Fernando off Dilum Sudeera. The 82-run opening stand has been broken as India A lose their first wicket. And it is time for the lunch break on Day 1.

Devdutt Padikkal has been in the scheme of things and has played for India in Test cricket. He can slot in at either position. If Jurel or Sudharsan slip up and Padikkal performs, their spot might be up for grabs a month later. The 24-year-old averaged 54.30 in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy and smashed a double hundred in the semifinal against Uttarakhand.

The tour will be important for both Dhruv Jurel and Sai Sudharsan. The duo have played 10 and 12 Test matches but are yet to seal their spots. The wicketkeeper averages just 34.14 despite batting at numbers 5, 6, and 7. Jurel has been playing as a batter with Rishabh Pant taking the gloves, and needs to perform to retain his spot.

Similarly, Sudharsan hasn’t done well in flat conditions in England and at home. He averages just 31.91, with 3 fifties to his name. He’s batted at three in all matches and hasn’t looked great against spin. The India A vs Sri Lanka A 1st Test will be the perfect opportunity to show everyone he can play in spin-friendly conditions.
