England won the toss and bowled, and Lauren Filer and Lauren Bell set the tone. Filer removed Shafali Verma for a duck in the second over, and Bell bowled Yastika Bhatia to leave India wobbling at 37/2. Then came the fightback. Smriti Mandhana played with class for 83, and with Jemimah Rodrigues, added 64. After tea, Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur put on 89 more. Harmanpreet battled cramps and a sore left wrist for a gritty 58, but Mady Villiers struck on the stroke of tea to give the debutant her first Test wicket.
England owned the evening. Deepti Sharma’s fluent 70-ball fifty held India together, but once she fell, the tail folded. Sophie Ecclestone finished with 3/68 and climbed to third on England’s all-format wicket list as India were bowled out for 285. England’s reply started badly. Tammy Beaumont fell for 2 in her final Test to Kranti Gaud. India also missed a big LBW review against Heather Knight that replays showed was three reds. Maia Bouchier is 17 not out, Knight 1 not out. Trailing by 264, England have work to do, but with the ball swinging and India already leaking chances, this one-off Test is finely poised.

Kranti Gaud strikes in her opening spell. She bowled short of a good length around fourth stump, and it nipped back in sharply. Umpire didn’t hesitate to finger up straight away. Beaumont didn’t even review. Gaud gets the wicket, and Beaumont walks for 2 off 7 in what’s likely her penultimate Test innings.

Sophie Ecclestone did the damage to wrap it up. In the 75th over, she fired an arm ball from around the wicket, full on middle. Kranti Gaud went back to defend but was beaten on the inside edge, and the ball crashed straight into the stumps. That was Ecclestone’s 3rd wicket — she ended with 3-68 from 21.5 overs. Gaud departed for 1 off 3, and with that England cleaned up the last 5 wickets in a hurry.
Debutant Shree Charani remained unbeaten on 3 off 1. A good fight from India to get to 285, but England’s comeback with the ball in the last session put them right back in the game.

Sophie Ecclestone has her first and it’s a timely one. She came around the wicket, bowled back of a length around middle and leg that came in with the arm.
Sayali Satghare went back to tuck it but missed on the inside edge. It thudded into her back pad right in front of leg stump and the LBW appeal was immediate. Satghare reviewed after a chat with her partner. UltraEdge showed nothing, and ball-tracking had it just clipping leg stump — Umpire’s Call.
The original decision stood. Ecclestone gets wicket No.1 for the match and in the process, becomes England’s leading wicket-taker across all formats. India are now 8 down. Pressure on Deepti Sharma to see out the day, with Kranti Gaud coming in.

Debutant Mady Villiers bowled full around fourth stump and got it to drift in. Sneh Rana dropped to one knee to sweep, but she missed it and the ball hit her low on the front pad. There was a big LBW appeal and Nat Sciver-Brunt took the review straight away.
UltraEdge showed nothing, so it all came down to ball-tracking. The review was "three reds," with it pitching in line, impact in line, and hitting leg stump. Umpire Sue Redfern gave it out. Villiers gets her second on debut and breaks the stand, with Rana dismissed LBW for 13 off 36.
