The wait for the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is finally over. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has finally announced the dates for the new LPL season, with the tournament starting to kick off from July 10. Meanwhile, the final of LPL 2026 will be played on August 5. It is the premier domestic T20 franchise tournament in Sri Lanka that also features various household overseas names.
After a successful 2024 edition, there was no LPL action in 2025. While it was initially planned to take place in November, the move was scrapped by SLC to prioritise planning for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka co-hosted the T20 World Cup alongside India, hosting 20 matches in total.
LPL to clash with the Hundred 2026
Back in December, Sri Lanka confirmed that they will be hosting the sixth edition of the LPL in the July-August window this year. While the date mentioned then was from July 8 to August 8, it has been tweaked a little bit. As mentioned above, LPL 2026 will be played from July 10 to August 05.
With this, the tournament is set to clash with the Hundred competition, organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This year, the Hundred competition will be played from July 21 to August 16. With the investments in the Hundred going through the roof, this year’s tournament will demand higher viewership that can hit the LPL to some extent. However, the timing may not clash with the Hundred matches generally starting at 11:00 IST.
This year, matches will be hosted at four top international venues in Sri Lanka:
- R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo
- Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele
- Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Dambulla
- Sinhalese Sports Club Ground (SSC), Colombo
The SLC said that the online registration portal for foreign players is set to open on May 4, 2026.
