KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 final LIVE updates

Champion

Kolkata Knight Riders (Rs 20 Crore)

It was comprehensive. This is what we demanded from the players and they stood up. It’s difficult to express the feelings. So much to cherish right now.

Runners-up

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Rs 12.5 Crore)

I thought they bowled fantastically. Obviously not enough tonight. We were outplayed. They didn’t give us anything. Just like the last game in Ahmedabad. It was a tricky wicket. Didn’t feel like a 200-plus wicket. 160 would have given us a chance. The style of our play, particularly with the bat, scoring 250 three times. So it was a great season. I had not worked with many of the guys before but it was great working with them. A really great squad and the staff was amazing. Had a great time. We play a lot in India but in front of a sea of blue. So it was good to have crowd on our side at times.

Purple Cap

Harshal Patel (24 wickets)

Deeply honoured to be presented with the purple cap. It’s been a rewarding journey. I want to thank my team-mates, coaches and my family. I look forward to the 2025 season.

Orange Cap

Virat Kohli (741 in 15 matches)

Extremely honoured to win the orange cap this season. It was a rollercoaster of a ride, I was really pleased with the way I performed for the team, especially in the latter half where we needed to win every game to qualify. Thank you everyone for your support.

Fairplay award

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Catch of the season

Ramandeep Singh (KKR vs LSG)

MVP of IPL 2024

Sunil Narine, KKR (488 runs & 17 wickets)

I think coming the ground today felt like 2012. The feeling is overwhelming. I am enjoying my cricket at the moment – batting, bowling and fielding. What helps is that your team is winning. I tried to get the team off the flier and GG said just go in and try to win the games for the team. I tried to do exactly that and I think it was a very good advice. Once you have an opening partner with the same intent, it helps. Varun is world-class bowler. His work ethic and in general the whole bowling line-up – we picked up early wickets and that helped. The whole bowling unit picking up wickets helped us win the title.

Striker of the season

Jake Fraser-McGurk (Strike rate 234.04 in 9 matches)

Emerging player of the year

Nitish Reddy (303 runs & 3 wickets)

Player of the match

Mitchell Starc wins Player of the Match for his fiery spell of 2/14 in 3 overs.

The final moments

GG all smiles!

Mother of coincidence!

SRK is happy owner

Yuvraj Singh speaks

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

My mom is watching from the home. She is feeling good now. I asked mom before the match if she wanted anything. She said just the win. When Salt was playing, I wasn’t expecting to get a chance but I knew it’s a long tournament and I needed to be ready. Once I got the chance, I was well prepared.

Bharat Arun, KKR bowling coach

I think it was pretty tough, the last two years. It was touch and go – we didn’t qualify. It needed a lot of introspection and now we can savour this moment. [On Harshit Rana] He has been outstanding. It’s about backing your strengths. [On Starc] I think Mitch coming into the team boosted the confidence of other youngsters in the side. He is probably the best bowler in the world. Once he understood the Indian conditions, he was excellent.

Rinku Singh

My dream of seven years is complete. It was God’s plan that we lift the trophy.

Varun Chakravarathy

All I can think right now is of the person who built this Indian core: Abhishek Nayar. “Please come here,” he asks Abhishek to join.

Andre Russell

No words to describe. It means so much. I am happy that all of us were very disciplined and worked towards one goal. This franchise has done a lot for me. It’s a big gift from all of us to them.

SRH 6/2 in 2

What a delivery!

Mitchell Starc starts with fire. He cleans up Abhishek Sharma with a ripper of a delivery. The outswinging delivery bamboozles Abhishek and Hyderabad have been dealt an early blow.

Here we go!

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma start for Hyderabad and Head will be hoping to end his streak of ducks.

Shreyas Iyer speaks

We would have bowled, we’ll get a fair idea about how the pitch will play. It’s a red soil and we played our last game on a similar surface. We need to stay with the present, stick to the basics and execute all our plans. Every individual is taking responsibility, this is a big game, we’ve plenty of people who’re playing in a final for the first time, nervous, but this is also a good chance. We’re going with the same team

Looks like a good wicket, never good at reading wickets. But this looks fine. There was no dew the other night, doesn’t seem there will be today, but who knows. We are playing a particular style, won’t work every time but when it does, it will be damaging. Good to be back here. It is a different soil, but you are asking the wrong bloke. Shahbaz comes in for Samad.

Toss update

Pat Cummins has won the toss and opted to bat first for Hyderabad in the final.

Pitch report

Chennai will use a red soil pitch with 63m and 70m square with 77m straight. Ian Bishop reckons there will be a lot of bounce and it will be a high-scoring game with 180-190 average total.

All clear in Chennai

There is no effect of cyclone for now and the match is all set to go ahead without interruption. To make things interesting, there won’t be any effect of dew as well.
